I don't really understand doug's reaction to Ben86 sitting him at cap. You had the option to play him knowing the coaching you've given him. Ben86 didn't try to MA vs you or anything shady like that. Is Ben86 not allowed to ever sit u at cap if you've given him some coaching on it?
Is this really so hard to understand ? Doug just uses the wrong word imo, since it's def not unethical. It just shows an absolute lack of character on Ben's part.

First you get free coaching from the best nl hu player there is
In return you screw him
Then you get into a fight with him because for some weird reason dougs appearance and behaviour upsets you, feeling too overwhelmed to deal with the repurcussions afterwards so you decide just not to talk to doug anymore.

After all these things happening common sense would be to leave each other alone and def not work on your capgame for a good bunch to later try to prey on the guy who cut your work time in half with his free coaching. Again nothing really unethical..... just a complete lack of character all around imo and i can def see why this upsets doug.

WCG and Ben, please do yourselves a favor and resolve this in private. Or don't. But you're starting to talk about some personal stuff that is none of anybody else's business. After all, you end your video with "this is between me and Ben".
NVG is just drooling over the embarassing drama, please stop it while you still can.

Pretend it's sng lobby, or forced blinds. Now it got really icky and shady because not only did he get to pick your brain in depth over how you think in nl , he also knows what your weaknesses in cap are without paying for it by either coaching fees or playing since you promised coaching in then that you shorted him for. Now you give one cap buyin(30k) to a 1k hu hyper guy to work with you and supply stuff to work on . Instant profit if wcg's ego can't handle it when you sit.

Have too guys heard about other pupils becoming the master and then targeted their mentor ? I sure haven't

I don't know either of you, but don't play the 'my hands were completely tied!' card when they plainly weren't. You put yourself in a bad spot by not running it by your partner first, but you still had options available to you, and you decided to short Doug.
+1

I'd be surprised if he didn't have an actual legal agreement with his partner, making it such that his hands actually were tied (Ie, an NDA)

I sat next to Ben in a 5k 6max event, we got along, mentioned to him that my friend and I were doing a horseback trail/beach riding excursion. He laughed said he might be interested, we exchanged numbers and I busted a few levels later. I text him that night telling him the price/time and he says why the hell not, and so it was set.

Next day comes and the van comes to pick us up, he seemed excited said he hadn't ridden a horse in years, we had that in common so I guess we were a little nervous. I tried to joke around a bit telling him that the professionals ride with both legs on one side, and I hope to be that good one day. Few people laughed but I thought it was funny and thats all that matters lol. So we get to the horses, everyone gets on, and we are off. The 1st 10 min is a slow beach walk, and I'm behind Ben, and my friend behind me. I was snapping pics and videos to send to friends (this is before snapchat) and then out of nowhere Ben swings his legs to one side, and starts riding side saddle. I took a 8-10 second video of this, we had some laughs, and I put my phone away. We finish the trail and are back at the hotel bar in about 90 minutes.

This is the part that I will never forget and has truly stopped me from befriending strangers, or at least made me more wary. I pull out my phone and start showing some pictures, I told him I would text him photos of him because as he put it "my friends won't believe I did this". I get to the video of him riding side saddle. My friend and I start laughing our asses off, as you can imagine how hilarious this looks. He gets red almost immediately. "Delete that **** right now" "That is the gayest thing ever I don't know why I did it" At first I thought he was kidding, but he reassured me, "If you don't delete that I will break your phone" and he grabbed at my phone. I told him to relax, and what was the big deal. He said he was "big online" and that if the video got out people would talk ****. Looking like he was about to cry, I took my phone, deleted the video in front of him, he made sure it was fully deleted, then said "I knew something was ****ed up about you guys" and walked away.

I had only occasionally thought about that night, until I saw Doug Polks video talking about dealings with him. I would randomly google his name, and see him doing well in tournaments, online and live, and was some what happy for him getting his **** together. Now reading and hearing about him again prompted me to tell this story, and at least give another perspective of Ben Tollerene.

This is why NVG exists.

WCG,

Did Ben86 tell you he would have to get approval to coach before you entered into agreeemnet? After Ben86 made you aware that he couldn't coach you and you already coached him did you ask to be compensated another way? When you made the coaching agreement did you make the caveat he can't play you?

-I lived at Shangri La during the beginning of this story and interacted with both Ben and Doug. Doug arrived there sometimes in August or Sept 2013, I think.

-Met Ben for first time in Vegas that summer, while I was planning on moving to Vancouver. He was very helpful on all things Vancouver -- told me places to look for apartments, gym to join, where to get my hair cut, gave me CAD for USD and even walked with me to show me where the bank was. He was never anything but pleasant and was especially helpful to me for someone I barely knew.

-the 500/1k cap thing -- who cares? No one is making you play, just sit out. Worst case is you play 2 hands.

-when you talk in the video about being excited about building a relationship with Ben, you do a good job of making it sound like your primary interest is learning how to play PLO, getting good pieces, etc. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but just how it sounds to an outside observer when you talk about it.

-you mention not wanting to involve other people, yet you out things he allegedly said about Galfond/Don? And his secret software? Why? Why did you post this in the first place?

-him backing out of coaching deal is ****ty, but to me it seems careless, not malicious. You probably should have worked out some compensation at the time, but it sounds like you didn't bring that up?

-the night everything blew up just sounds like people were drunk, egos were being flexed, and **** got out of hand. Relatively standard stuff.

-the really personal stuff has no place in this thread/on the internet.
This is an informed, logical, and rational post on the situation. Clearly, it has no place in NVG.

Ben should initiate a challenge, may be the best chance he ever gets to get back at bullies. Either that or HU for rolls.

As much as I feel sorry for Doug, I feel sorry for Ben too.
The guy has mental issues and needs to do some serious work on his innerself, if he doesn't see a therapist already I would highly suggest it to him.

Ben and Doug, resolve this in private please. Posting a video with his full name on youtube, where you out your frustation is just making him look bad. This is a personal issue related to poker between both of you. Doug publicly outing his thoughts about him shouldn't be his concern, it's a very low vibration way of dealing with the problem.
