PokerStars will be withdrawing the option of real money poker play for Colombian residents from Monday, July 17 due to local licensing requirements.

PokerStars has been, and will continue to be, in positive and proactive discussion with Colombian government officials on this issue, and we hope to offer real money games again in the future.

PokerStars would like to assure any players affected that their funds are protected and available for withdrawal. Please remember to open any Stars Rewards Chests that you have received before any withdrawal so that any rewards inside can be converted. We also recommend that you spend your StarsCoin balance in the Rewards Store where we have made available a $1 Cash Rebate if you’d like to convert your StarsCoin to cash.

For more on the withdrawal of real money games - including answers to questions you may have - please visit our FAQ page, or contact our Support team.

Please Note: free to play games are still available to all players in Colombia. No other services across Latin America will be affected.
Less than three full days notice

It baffles me that governments would rather ban online poker than find a way to collect tax revenue from it.

and when they find a way to collect tax from it that way is so stupid it feels like 20 monkeys sat in a room and all agreed that if anyone wins 2 bananas someday they have to give them 3 bananas as a tax and 3 months later they wonder why noone plays.

but what you can expect when the majority of voters are monkeys also. ouh ouh ouh ah ah ah ah!

with a few exceptions ofc

Quite true. A few foibles aside, it makes me realise how when compared to the ROTW Britain's regulation is very player friendly.

It does baffle me that they can't find a way to tax them. But it does not baffle me that they ban it all completely when their to dumb to find a reason to tax the players.

Why?

They dont want money flowing out of their country.

its that simple bro.

Colombia is lucky that Pokerstars is leaving them now that they have turned their site into a Casino where nobody will be able to win.

I'm sure you're trolling, but most "Colombian" regs are relocated foreigners that will move.

Even if regs in your games are Colombian...do you think they will go get some office job for $400/month instead of moving to Panama/Ecuador?

No sunny side here.

It's a small one of course, but poker just lost another potential growth market. :/.

The real threat to online poker is the increasingly small "global" player pool.
