Citing twitter as an example of good user experience is just about the height of lol but anyway it's a completely different use case. WSOP tourneys are isolated events with definitive beginnings and ends, and some people understandably want to observe them chronologically.

Yes, don't look at major tech companies for examples of good user experience, look to albedoa of 2p2.

Additionally, I wasn't chastising anyone for wanting the page to work that way -- i'm clearly in the minority. lol @ u

  1. Set up your device to help prevent spoilers
    1. If you're using a phone/tablet, view it in landscape mode
    2. If you're using a desktop/laptop, size the window so that the vertical height is not too tall
  2. Get to the update page and set Auto Refresh Rate: None
  3. Get to the bottom of the page and click on the link to the last page
    • Once again to avoid spolers, use the End key on computers to get to the bottom quickly
    • On phones/tablets, close your eyes and scroll down to the bottom
    • Read from bottom to top
  4. For Nits only:
    1. When you're ready to read the next page, open the next page in a new tab
    2. While you're still on the page you finished reading, hit the refresh button
    3. There's a chance that an update or two was added while you were reading the page
    4. This technique will guarantee that no update will be skipped
  5. Take a look at the URL parameters
    1. rr=0 The refresh rate is set to None
    2. tid=14201 The tournament ID, looks like this just increments by 1
    3. dayof=142011 This is the Day 1 of the Casino Employees event. Day 2 would be 142012
    4. curpage=5 Which page to display
    5. grid=1136 I'm not sure what this means
  6. When you need to stop reading, make a note of how many pages you've read from the last page
  7. In the URL, set curpage like this: curpage=100
  8. Bookmark this page
    1. When going back to reading the updates, you'll notice that there is no page 100. All you see is the links to the available pages
    2. Based on how many pages you read before, click on the corresponding page from the [new] last page
  9. Rinse and repeat
  10. Profit!

Is it just me or has the caliber of the coverage gone down hill?

The pokernews coverage really tanked last year. I stopped watching after the first week last year. They had some amazing girls who could conduct fun interviews in the past. Now its just awkward to watch.

I used to ALWAYS watch the pokernews and way back cardplayer videos for the WSOP. I was in love with them. Now? Maybe I'm just withered but I don't watch or follow much outside of final tables.

I just unsubscribed from pokernews after they sent out an email with an EPT Grand Final spoiler in the subject FFS so I'm sure they really don't care about spoilers.

Major tech companies can also be a source of bad user experience. You should be looking at companies that are known for their good UX instead. I would be happy to give you some resources via PM if you'd like.

I work in UX. Major tech companies pay us to fix their bad UX. So, sure.

Sorry for jabbing about Twitter — they have a history of terrible decisions so you got a lol out of me.

Twitter is awful at everything except stream-of-thought/time posting. Fortunately that one thing they are good at is really damn important/useful.

The thing is that it's a live blog approach that they're taking, and by definition blogs present information in reverse-chronological order.

Twitter is essentially a stripped down blog format, which is why it's similar BTW (and blogging and twitter were pretty much invented by the same people). The format was developed from the beginning with the idea that the most recent items should be at the top. This absolutely is effective in the sense that a new visitor always sees something new and recent at the beginning/top of a page. It's why the format is inherently engaging and why it has been such a success over the years.

Now it may be argued that this isn't the best format, but decoupling coverage from its live blog format would have other implications, not the least is which is that if you want to ensure that new visitors are getting the latest, most up-to-date material, that you have to invent a way of providing it.

Lots of people have tried in the past - think of iframe-style "live blog" products like Livefyre's original formats - but these are universally more complicated to manage and not as well supported by third-party techs as would be required for coverage this extensive.

I like the blog format a lot and think that on balance it's pretty ideal for this kind of event reporting (with uneven delays between posts, a big variety of length of piece, etc.) though I do acknowledge that it isn't perfect.

All you need to do is have a toggle that can display the updates in chronological order. This isn't some massive programming undertaking here.

We should also add a filter that sorts chip counts by famous name pros, online high stakes cash players or FT/PS sponsored pros. I would like this feature therefore it is worth implementing.

What WSOP coverage. I use their site I use there streaming schedule. Still nothing. It's a joke and Tuckman must be getting chapped lips. As the coverage is not real anymore.

Agree, especially when I go to bed before a tourney is over and I want to sweat it through the updates the next day. I have to divert my eyes as I refresh and scroll to the bottom so I don't spoil it by the top post which always is announcing the winner and a winners photo.

The best thing for WSOP coverage would be 1) drop Norm, 2) drop the "derp here's another improbable bad beat" clips. Show the public this is a thinking game to generate more interest.

They're there but you have to look around. It's not like it used to be.
And come on, average chip stack? Could be automated so easily!
Super frustrating this year.

It would be 100% better if linked up the tourney clock for the tourney in question. At least we could see the current blind levels, players left and payouts.

Every tourney has been a mess. Updates page shows Joe-Schmo bust in 15th, at the top of the page it says there is 19 left, on the chip counts it shows 23 left and Joe has a huge chipstack, the payout page says its 53 left..... This should be easy stuff to sync up.

Doesnt even need to be a stream of the clock, could be just data on the webpage fed from the clock.

Bump

And they managed to make it worse by having to log in with your Facebook/Google account to see any of the updates

Go to "Thread Display Options" here & change "Thread Display Mode" to "Linear - Newest First": http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/pr...do=editoptions

Don't forget to click "save Changes" button at the bottom of the page

Also I suggest changing "Number of Posts to Show Per Page" to "Show 100 Posts Per Page"
