View: "sunglasses should be banned from poker tables"- durrr(+others)

So, on the last episode of High Stakes Poker (s06ep12, towards the end of the show), a discussion began between primarely durrrr, eli elezra and daniel negreanu.

The view was that sunglasses should be banned from poker tables.

Several reasons were mentionned, but the main one was that "the guy could be cheating, you never know".

What's 2p2's opinion on the matter ? Should sunglasses be banned ? They also talked about hats, so what else should be banned ?

Bonus question: how do you think one could cheat with sunglasses ?

discuss

Anyone think that banning sunglasses could be -EV for the pros? As in less amateurs would be willing to pay $10k+ for a tourney b/c they think they have too many tells.

Banning them would be better for tv. Seeing 8/9 players at a table with sunglasses on can get pretty ridiculous at times.

There has been cheating in cash games that involved marked cards that could be seen by special glasses. I guess that's what they had in mind.

lol at the first part. You could be right.

Agree with the second part. Douchebags being douchebags is normally just funny, but at the poker tables I get annoyed being surrounded for hours by guys wearing sunglasses. I guess not seeing people's eyes bothers me. Creates an uncomfortable distance.

As to #1, no. Not hats or glasses. Too common and intrusive to get rid of, especially hats as someone might be bald or whatever. As to glasses, do I have to bring a doctor's excuse for tinted lenses or something?

As to the bonus, I believe there was an epic thread/meme on RGP back in the day about marking cards with a substance that could be seen through tinted glasses. Probably about as valid a concern as someone receiving signals through an MP3 player.

Marked cards, I saw it on Discovery last night.

I'd like to see a tourney with the theme, "No shades, no hoods, no hats, no hiding." Last year at the WSOP some silly goof had on monster shades, and a hood zipped up to the point where all you could see was the shades. Looked like an extra-terrestrial. Then he asks Joe Hachem, "Don't you remember me, Joe?" Whole table cracks up.

Just my opinion, but if you can't play without all that, perhaps live poker isn't your game.

I dont think women (with the exception of Kathy Liebert and others alike) should be permitted to wear clothes at the tables.

Don't care, since i would never use it when playing anyways, and also don't mind people using it.

i actually think that sunglasses/ipods etc is already banned in swedish casinos.
