I just watched a youtube clip where the world championships culminated in the winner winning $20k.

Given that any random can technically win more than that in one shot, sat playing online and without the hassle of travelling to Korea or interrupting their regular pizza/porn/poker routine, it doesn't seem that profitable...

I do appreciate its a game people enjoy, which is fine. But I would imagine playing it any more than recreationally would be -EV for profitable players.

And if it will cause an influx of new poker players who have honed their strategic edge in this game, in a few years time - then where is the historical data to show that this may happen? Aside from Elky and a few others, I may have missed the huge influx of Korean top poker players....

It isn't.. + they need to practise like 8 hours a day..

I don't think this is gonna make any significant dent to poker whatsoever.
What will happen is that some players will play some starcraft 2 instead of watching TV during off hours.

It had nothing to do with poker. In fortune telling or some crap.. spade represents death/killing etc.

Where are the hot pics of Kerrigan in the midst of a "Zerg Rush".

If you're happy with SC2, I'm honestly glad for you.

I played the heck out of the game 10 years ago, but haven't really played many RTS games since. I'm more into first person shooter games, as I've been playing competitively since the Doom days on Dwango lol.

I hesitantly plucked down the $60 for SC2 on Friday night, and I've played it for a bit. What a drag, it's the same game from over 10 years ago with just a little 3D. Lame. It didn't even run on my computer to start with, I had to edit the variable just to get the game to run (it is RIDICULOUS how computer game makers now just release buggy ****. Falling back on the "we'll just patch it". I really like Bad Company 2 right now, but the way in which they released that game is damn near criminal).

I couldn't believe it when I found out only the Terran campaign is in the game (yeah yeah, I know multi is where it's at, but I really only bought this game for single player). $60 for a third of a game, with no new content in 12 years, that doesn't even run right.

What a joke.

What a joke.
- It's got a new tech tree/map mechanics which has a lot of implications for competitive gameplay (having Terran infantry units which can jump up cliffs is huge)
- Sorry to hear you had installation problems; it installed very smoothly for me
- It's only the Terran campaign, but the campaign is far longer and deeper (in terms of gameplay options) than the original. In terms of hours of gameplay, the campaign is similar to all three original campaigns combined. They'll release Zerg/Protoss expansions
- Campaign mode has the upgrade/research options, which add a bit (even though I don't really like this aspect of the game)
- (This is the strongest point for me) The new map editor is insanely awesome, which will allow for a bunch of new custom games (can't wait for a DotA clone to come around).

The main minus I'd have to say is that I think most of the online field for SC2 will be highly competitive, when I'd rather play with casual gamers (which seems to be what most of the WC3 online field is like).

Yeah you need a decent machine to play this game, but not an amazing one. The graphics settings can be neutered to run on most machines (like every Blizzard game). The game will look as good as your computer can handle, and at the high end it has the best graphics of any RTS game in history.

The singleplayer campaign compared to the original Starcraft's, it really is like comparing a Ferrari to the Model T. I'm really amazed at how much Blizzard put into this game and I can't wait for the expansions.

Only getting the Terran campaign is not a legitimate complaint imo. First of all, you play as Protoss in some of the missions. The singleplayer has Protoss and Zerg challenges as well. The multiplayer experience is fully featured with all 3 races. And the Terran campaign is so incredible, it's like 3 campaigns rolled up into one.

yeah, you really have to give a thumbs up for the single player campaign. I don't play RTS all that seriously, and generally just like to play through the campaign a few times and be done with it.

The Terran Campaign is amazing. Haven't found it all that tough so far, but like the story, the interface (research, armoury, choosing missions) -- it actually has a fair bit of replay value.

You also have to credit blizzard for creating a game that can run on most folks machines, and on Mac (which I'm using). There's been a few crashes, but overall I'd say it's a pretty well put together package.
