he was in the podcast and he prolly read a few books. but a lot of 'famous' people give interviews and don#t know exactly, who are the interviewers and a lot of people read books, w/o knowing something about the publisher.

i just wanted to pint out, how stupid the comment about my 'approval' was or how useless this thread is

you bumped an old thread about ivey not being the best anymore with a "lol ... guess who just won" ... thought you tried to make a point, didn't know that you just randomly post

Winning a 25-person tournament, even 1 w/ some of the best players in the world in it, doesn't prove much

And it's not that he isn't still a badass poker gangster, just that when he plays any variant of high-stakes poker online these days, he rates to be the mark and big dog to any of the regs in those games

Lets break this down shall we. OP was "best poker player" NOT "best holdem player"

Kanu - only wins at holdem

Trueteller - only wins at holdem

Ike - starting to play a bit of PLO and mixed

WCG - lolholdemplayer

Sauce - finally an actual contender! he actually wins at mixed games, but obv is strongest in nl holdem. and hes not the best

jungle - only wins at holdem

Galfond - another actual poker player, one of three on this list. galfond actually pretty strong in 2-7 triple draw it seems

Now, to the OP, the best poker player isn't any of these. Its probably still Ivey if he still crushes the big mixed games. It could also be David Oppenheim who also crushes them arguably harder. It could definitely be Antonius, or one of the other crushers who sits online, Alexnomoon, Seb86.

The future of poker is mixed games, NL is done. And I for one can't wait.

wat

were you in a coma for the last year or so?

So due to the sample size n player fields of the tournies it means ivey isn't one of the best or the best even tho he's crushing but yet when he plays 100-200k hands(lol volume) n is down a few buy ins it means he's a dog in said games online?. Your point don't make sense tbh.

Yes with a better win ratio than every other poker player in history in practically every single way that you can measure poker success.

You are an idiot my friend.

Completely agree with the OP but I think it's rather obvious to people who think for themselves. OP also nailed 3 I personally consider to be the best: jungle, haxton, galfond.

P.S. That's right, I (and probably most people) don't give a **** about anything but NLHE.

If Phil Ivey could still crush the online nosebleeds in 2015 with minimal work ethic after being on the top for so long at age 39, he would be superhuman. He's still the GOAT though imo.

LOL if you're a real poker player then you'd be bored of NL. PLO is where the fun is at especially when it comes to high stakes crazy games. STep yo game up fool!

When he played at Full Tilt, with some ownership of the site, he was up $20M.

Then when he was no longer owner, and played at Pokerstars, he has been a consistent loser.

I wonder why there has been such a big difference in his results between playing on a site he owns, and one he doesn't.

Well, I'll try my best to help you take off your tin foil hat.

Ivey crushed when everyone else sucked and Guy was handing out money like Candy.

Fast Forward to his Stars days where everyone got a helluva lot better and well, you can see where I am going with this.

Yeah, no.

I'm as big a fan of the guy as anyone, I watch most of his vids within a couple days of them coming out, but he is by no means the best. Is he elite and among the best high stakes NLHE regs? Sure, but there is a handful of players that are as good as him, if not better, at high stakes.

Doug not among best nlhe regs.

From my NVG perspective he's bad at everything except NLHE and he's not at all GOAT material in any NLHE except for 60bb+ heads up.

Therefore Doug isn't in contention for best NLHE player, and shouldn't even be mentioned when discussing best overall player.

Best is obviously Isildur, Sauce, or Trueteller.

It's called there was easy money cuz lots of people played poker. Huge difference in player pool, it's pretty easy to figure out. Lots of players from all levels went from winners to breakeven/losing as well. I guess they all had a peice of the sites when the games were easy too.
