This is obv based 100% on NLH which is stupid. I'm sure Ivey would tell you he isn't the best NLH player in the world but I would take Ivey over any player OP mentioned in an 8-game format and so would everybody in the thread.

Cool thread though bud

Is PLO a better game for amateurs though? Isn't the reason for the popularity of NLHE that you can observe the betting on different streets and try to work out what the other person has - i.e. you "put him" on AK and later find out you were right? With PLO they might make a move on one street due to one part of their holding and a move another street due to another part. You would never be able to pin it down.

it will never be as big as NLH but can for sure get to be 2ed biggest game, im teaching it and promoting it at out bar game now, everyone is getting in to it, changing it up is good for everyone, when 1 player is miles ahead of the pool and always wins then the pool will dry up, on OP opinion, put all them players with Ivey for 1 month at NLHE, tell Ivey at end of month you get a 1 million dollar bonus if your the winner at end of month, id bet 50% of my money that Ivey is best at end of month

He might have lost $4.5m but how much has he won online over the years?

I mean, he just won a bracelet and was chip leader of the main event on day 3 or 4. That means something.
I don't think you know what the word "literally" means. And no, winning a bracelet and being chipleader in the main event doesn't mean much.

Why has no one ever entertained the thought Ivey was cheating on full tilt?

I mean if he looks for edges in pit games and hustles people on other bets, why wouldn't he get up with Howard L, and cheat with hole cards, they knew how not to raise flags online.

Why have you never entertained the thought that this has been discussed before?

in my opinion ragen has a great shot at becoming a GOAT, isildur, if he isn't considered one already, will be a GOAT when he gets a bit older and more mature.

The problem with the OP is that it makes out like NLHE is the only game of poker, Iveys worst game is probably NLHE and he is still one of the best in the world at it.

All his bracelets have come from non NLHE Events and he has got to be one of the best players in Stud, Hi-Lo, Razz, 2-7 triple draw/NL, LHE

So stick him in a game against the best NLHE players in the word and he is probably neutral EV maybe even a slight loser?

Stick the players your talking about in a mixed game with Ivey and its a massive +EV situation for him

He is the best all round player in the world.

You base a whole poker player's career based just on their results in the Main Event???

You are also discounting the fact that Ivey is the best cash game player in the world, where the players are much better than in tournament poker.

Phil Ivey is one of the best poker players to ever play the game and I would say is still the best all around player in the world.

Many of you just want to see Phil Ivey fail so badly, I mean he has 10 bracelets.

yes. IF ivey challenged anyone to a million dollar game of nlhe, he would get some takers. IF HE MADE THE SAME CHALLENGE, BUT AS SOON AS THEY ACCEPTED HE COULD NAME ANY GAME HE WANTED, i doubt hed get any takers.

LOL this has been discussed at length, but still a point and I don't think well ever know for sure. His graphs pre and post black friday are telling, as one is straight up and one is straight down. I just assume some sort of shadiness was going on at Full Tilt. They needed a face for their brand and who better than a highly successful online pro like Ivey, only problem is when he lost his FTP deal, he did nothing but bleed millions online.

Same person, same game, wildly different results. Quite shady.

One thing to remember, Ivey is also one of the best at adapting to an opponent. Basically everyone he has played started off feeling they had an edge on him, then he improved so fast they had to quit him. Both live and online.
