Just a heads-up for anyone staying at the Paris during WSOP. Once/if this guy gets released, wouldn't be surprised if he returned or goes next door to The Horseshoe.

7 rooms in 2 hours, this guy was practiced ...

You know those room safes, chains and manual bolts on your hotel room door, this is why you should set them.

Not a bad idea to lean a chair against the door, under the handle, if there is room to do so.

This guy would have been working for the mob. If he would be in a hole in the desert it would be because he stole something he wasn't supposed to see, from a protected person. And I'm not sure what it says about you that you miss the days someone would be summarily executed (actually I am pretty sure what it says about you)

screwdriver to open the doors. maybe he figured out a way to remove the peephole from outside so that he could look and make sure noone was awake before he broke in?

Reverse peephole like Kramer did? lol

I recently saw some scary videos on YT on how to unlock doors and latches from the outside.

There are various devices you can buy to protect your door from break ins at hotels, I think I saw some you can set if you are away.

I’m not sure what it says about you with a 2006 join date and 13k+ posts you still have no recognition of internet hyperbole (actually I do know what it says about you).

No. You have a romanticized version of the history of holes in the desert.

Casino however, still is an entertaining movie based on reality; the underlying story sufficed to keep me away from Tony Roma's for a few years

You are way way off. It was in the mobs interest to make people feel safe. The poster is right there is no chance this guy would have robbed rooms when they were in charge. Look at all the violence in Mexico but you never hear about it in higher end resorts. It’s not just because the areas are nicer. Also, if you are in favor of giving people a slap on the wrist for breaking in to where you are sleeping and stealing from you, then you need to adjust your snowflake priorities.

During one of our recent trips, the hotel door latch (like this one) was really loose, and I was worried it was going to close itself while we were outside of the room. Sure enough, it did, we were unable to get in. We called hotel maintenance, it took that guy about 12 seconds to open the door a crack and pry the latch open using nothing but a screwdriver. Those things are useless.

Actually, there are currently reported stories about violence in higher end resort towns, but I'd go there anyway for beach time ....

From April and May, 2023

https://nypost.com/2023/04/26/mexico...iolence-rages/

Last month, the US State Department issued a travel alert warning Americans to “exercise increased caution” if traveling to Mexico’s buzzing beach resorts like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum where drug gang violence has run rampant in the past.

https://nypost.com/2023/04/04/murder...to-drug-gangs/

but "increased caution" = no mota, no drogas, y no "free" tequila/roofie pours while shopping near downtown, ....

also, no "ayi, ayi, ayi, bang bang" ...https://www.google.com/search?client...id:B4bDBk0-qq0

Gracias, no.

So, stick a chair under the door handle when sleeping, use the deadbolt, use the room safe ?

Those are all free to guests.

The objective is to not be the lowest hanging fruit on the tree.

No, I get it and agree that it's a good idea to avail yourself of whatever security measures are available, like you said in the hopes that it might a) buy you some time at least or b) encourage them to go find easier prey. I was just making a point about the efficacy of this particular security measure, it was pretty eye opening to me how ineffective it was when I saw him defeat it almost instantly without any sort of specialty tool or access.

Yea, same thing many years ago staying at a motel 1 night while traveling, went down to grab free coffee and doughnuts before check out, was gone like 10 minutes and came back to the room(no hallway) used key card to open but the latch was on so opened only a few inches.

I freaked thinking someone had broken into room and was inside and flagged down a property maintenance guy and explained, and he said it happens all the time when the AC blows the curtain and the curtain pushes the latch over. lol

Took him about 10 seconds to get it open with a simple tool he had.

Yeah the mob ran the casinos and were skimming the take. To think they'd let some two bit crook break into hotel rooms is absolutely idiotic.

I'm pretty sure Doyle Brunson said the safest illegal poker game he ever played in was run by a known murderer gangster and the place had a machine gun nest on the roof.

I'd prefer lawlessness to crime being legal only for criminals. Society would sort these lowlifes out if they let us. You shoot this piece of crap burglar breaking into your room at night and you'd probably go to jail for murder or some dumb horseshlt nowadays. He's black and his name is Black. That means you're a double racist.

You care to enlighten folks as to what hotels allow you to check in with three Dobermanns , or even what hotels are that pet friendly, especially in Las Vegas ?

Traveling to hotels with even a couple of small dogs has involved a lot of searching; you'd be doing folks a favor by sharing where you've found pet-friendly accommodations, especially in Las Vegas with the WSOP ongoing.
