View: Main Event a reentry?

Thought just popped into my head. Lot of the circuit MEs are turning over to reentry.

Would this be a success or dud? Would fish be scared away of the pros ability to have multiple entries? Would it suck too much $ out of an already fragile poker economy? Stupid idea? Thoughts?

Not a stupid idea ... there's no doubt they will have debated it. I doubt this will happen unless the starting field starts to fall away alarmingly, and there doesn't seem to be any indication that will happen any time soon. The prize pool is big enough as it is.

ya i mean the event already takes 7 days, and is super deep cuz people bust fast, so with people busting fast and rebuying it would take forever.

i'd be for raising the buy in though. 20k seems good. not sure how far they are from doing that.

Good idea to boost prizepool, but wouldn't this just dishearten and chase away the onceinalifers and shot-takers on account of the pros and whales who would play much looser, therefore lowering the number and hype of the tournament?

Re: View: Main Event a reentry?

Re-entry would make tournament far too long. Making buy-in 20k would stop alot from playing it. There's enough high-buy in tourneys as it is, and they don't excatly get 6000 players. 10k buy-in + current structure seems perfect. Only thing that should be changed is the 3 month wait for final table.

With today's prices 62m is enough for a donut or a cup of coffee. I remember when.....<insert old man rant about prices>

Rebuy is not the same as reentry.

Agreed, until the world economy crashes and we all have to buy in with chunks of gold

Good idea imo, bigger prize pool and more likely to see known players at the final table are both good for poker.

Re: View: Main Event a reentry?

the reason they cut the rebuy tourneys is because the floor was stealing and pocketing the rebuys

I would like to see this, but with re-entry not allowed on the same day. It wouldn't add to the time of the event much at all, especially since the numbers are going to decline for a while. Allowing same day reentries would mess with the flow however. As long as there are multiple day 1's I don't see any issue.

People who talk about history and tradition are silly. The first events were a disgrace to poker, as were many of the later years with deals and other unsavoury things occurring. Making it more likely for good players to succeed and bad players not caring is a great thing imo. It might avoid the most boring tournament ever scenario like 2012.

Upping the buy-in will have to happen someday, but not in this economy. $10k is a lot, making it higher would be like making Open qualifying $3000. It keeps people away when it should be inclusive to every player who has theoretically enough game. Anyone with £80, a 2 handicap or better in the open qualifiers, and anyone who has $100 to win a satellite in the main.

It may be be good for entertainment value, but not good for poker. The main event is suppose to be "the avarage guys" chance to make it big, that's why it's the only 10k tourney that gets so many players. A higher buy in and more known players will ruin that. The "known" and wealthy players have enough opportunities to play big, this is the "peoples" tournament, don't ruin that.
