They made off with over $1.1mill in cash from 1 box alone. And they didn't drill, they basically used suction cups like you'd see on a dent puller to open the boxes. It's well over a $10mill haul and had to be an inside job.
I was just talking about this with my friend who has a box in the VIP area today.

And how is it that no one stopped inside to get something out of/take something from their box while this robbery was going on?
A friend of mine had a box at Private Vaults. He heard about the robbery and went in there a couple days ago. I went with him. Several employees were there, along with the owner (old guy) and some police officers.
As soon as we walked in, we were asked if we had heard about the robbery. Yup. The lady in charge then told us that they were closing the business, and people had a couple weeks to come in and clear their boxes out. My friend had a box in the "main" area, and she told us that those boxes were untouched. They didn't have the security (eye scan) stuff set up anymore, the door was wide open and people could walk in and out as they pleased. You still needed a PIN to get in the front door. I understand that if you didn't have keys to a box you couldn't get into it, but why did they have all their security stuff shut off inside the building?
The reason they gave for closing the business was that the owner wasn't taking any chances of it happening again, and maybe someone getting hurt or killed. I personally think that they are shutting it down in fear of any lawsuits from the people whose boxes who were robbed, and to stave off bankruptcy from any court proceedings. But I could be way off base on that. But can you imagine? The area that was robbed was the VIP area. Those people had to have hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of cash, jewelry, and other valuables stolen. I'd be pissed if I were a VIP...and had to provide Metro with a detailed listing of what was stolen. And possibly not insured to boot!
My question is this: Supposedly the robbers caught the night watchman while he stepped outside to have a cigarette. Now, how do they know exactly what time he's going to be stepping outside, and they happen to be standing there with weapons, overtake him, and force him inside where they could do whatever they wanted?
