I know. Advertising something that a aids a large percentage of their clients illegal behavior makes them an obvious target of law enforcement and criminals. I am surprised the authorities did not shut this down first. Seems like netteler. This story should be receiving a lot more attention. Would pay to know what is in the other boxes. Secret porn tapes, jewels, body parts...

Which leads to how much would you pay for an unopened box in the VIP section?

I would pay $100,000 and sweat bullets. Figure that some may put less money in there, but there certainly may be one with $10MM+. Those safes are HUGE. You could store millions of dollars of jewels in there.

I could imagine drug lords using this. Should put this in an episode of Breaking Bad.

It always seemed to me (while fantasizing about not being busto) that it would be cheaper and more secure to just bury or hide your cash somewhere. For example every block there is landscaping that has a green plastic sprinkler or utility box. How hard would it be to put your own green plastic box next to a subdivision wall. For that matter, I can think of at least two reasonably foolproof ways to hide **** in a publicly accessible area of your average casino-hotel.

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking people with this kind of money have the resources to find a better place to store money than a mini-mall in Vegas that advertises on billboards.

And the posts about the misspelling of the owner's name on the website seem like much ado about nothing.

I was just talking about this with my friend who has a box in the VIP area today.

And how is it that no one stopped inside to get something out of/take something from their box while this robbery was going on?

A friend of mine had a box at Private Vaults. He heard about the robbery and went in there a couple days ago. I went with him. Several employees were there, along with the owner (old guy) and some police officers.

As soon as we walked in, we were asked if we had heard about the robbery. Yup. The lady in charge then told us that they were closing the business, and people had a couple weeks to come in and clear their boxes out. My friend had a box in the "main" area, and she told us that those boxes were untouched. They didn't have the security (eye scan) stuff set up anymore, the door was wide open and people could walk in and out as they pleased. You still needed a PIN to get in the front door. I understand that if you didn't have keys to a box you couldn't get into it, but why did they have all their security stuff shut off inside the building?

The reason they gave for closing the business was that the owner wasn't taking any chances of it happening again, and maybe someone getting hurt or killed. I personally think that they are shutting it down in fear of any lawsuits from the people whose boxes who were robbed, and to stave off bankruptcy from any court proceedings. But I could be way off base on that. But can you imagine? The area that was robbed was the VIP area. Those people had to have hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of cash, jewelry, and other valuables stolen. I'd be pissed if I were a VIP...and had to provide Metro with a detailed listing of what was stolen. And possibly not insured to boot!

My question is this: Supposedly the robbers caught the night watchman while he stepped outside to have a cigarette. Now, how do they know exactly what time he's going to be stepping outside, and they happen to be standing there with weapons, overtake him, and force him inside where they could do whatever they wanted?

24/7 Private Vaults being bonded and insured is like FTP being regulated by the AGCC: Neither of them means jack ****.

This must be made into a movie, hilarious. I feel nothing for anybody that lost anything. Lie down with dogs and wake up with fleas.

The whole "zomg I needs access to tens of thousands of dollars cash at all times at a moment's notice" bit is just silly.

If you're regularly running that kind of money put a safe in your house. You don't have to keep it full all the time, just get what you'll need until a bank opens again. If you doing something shady then, well go for it. Security and anonymity are almost mutually exclusive goals here.
