Re: The UB Scandal Continues
Wow. UB were dumb enough to cheat their own props? How ****ing stupid do you have to be to cheat your own employees who are there to help the site grow?!

Re: The UB Scandal Continues
Low stakes players should take heed.
1) Cheating has been going on since early 2005 at minimum.
2) More than a few people were involved. You can be sure it spread by word of mouth.
Consider that someone learns of the ability from someone else and wants to get started to reap the benefits. Do you really think, even with all the money transfers going on, that someone will use their own ill gotten gain to stake the new guy? Not when it would only take six months or less to run $100 up to $100K or more. The people doing this were obviously very greedy. They have no incentive to seed someone else, when they can do it for themselves.
3) UB was not "finding" superusers unless they were already found out by 2+2. Does anyone believe that UB would bother to check any lower stakes games for superuser activity? You can be sure that they would limit the search engine to mid and higher stakes games. Why? Because they don't ever want it known that the low stakes games were rotten, because that is where their future clientele is coming from. Lower stakes players have one thing in common. They do not use PokerTracker or any other program that would spot the anomalies that caught the cheaters. Therefore the people at 2+2 will never find the low level cheating, so why should UB bother to look?
I stopped playing on every (US) site except Stars because of the KGC connection. Now I find that 'Network Status' shows that Stars is still linked to Kahnawake(MIT). We need to bring down the cheaters before I deposit another dime anywhere.

For those of you unaware, AP and UB will be merging together later this year.

Re: The UB Scandal Continues
According to poker scout ub is doing so much better than absolute poker at the moment. That doesent make sense? Is ub manipulating their amount of players with their wacky software or do people just want to play on a discredited site.

Both sites higher stakes games have suffered.
AP has manipulated the numbers on their site by creating more freerolls and increasing dramatically the number of players they allow to play each freeroll. They have lowered some quarantees, removed some games completely, and they still have overlay in their bigger MTT's. Their SNG's volumes are way down too.
I'm sure their overall profit has taken a noticable hit since the scandal.

Re: The UB Scandal Continues
I'm through posting about this (barring anything extraordinary occurring) as circumstances dictate that I do so.
There are really only two ways forward at this point. One is to get outside 3rd parties involved in order to convert the story from a niche internet situation into a full blown multimillion dollar fraud/criminal investigation. Energy focused on this avenue should multiply. I still believe working angles to force Phil Hellmuth to have his nose rubbed in this is an important part (ie his sponsors)
The second is that online poker players need to wise up and from a true player's organization. The sites have the PPA, now the players need one. A player's organization formed out of the aftermath of this episode could go a long ways in allowing the road forward and out of this mess to be a more sturdy one. The key is numbers of course and players have shown an amazing ability to resist organization unless paid to join. A PO could live on and cause sites to be more responsive to players in a lot of areas; game selection, tourney schedules, promotions, support resolution, pro player health insurance and a hundred other items. Its called LEVERAGE and right now players have ZERO. People wonder why UB traffic is up right now. Truth is we don't know that it is; sites have admitted to using basic breakeven bots to start games, keep games running. For all we know UB is getting crushed right now and ginning up the stats. When the crap hit the fan a week or two ago, Scout shows them dropping WAY off. A PO could coordinate meaningful boycotts which would FORCE rooms to assent to the will of the customer. Rooms believe they are offering a product. You and I know they are providing a SERVICE and the difference is substantial in how you treat your customers. If you believe these two scandals are the extent of cheating, then GL to you going forward because things are going to get worse.
If somebody decides to seriously consider building a PO, keep me in mind as I would be happy to write copy, position papers, etc etc. Until then happy hunting and I hope the real perps are captured/killed (err wait, thats bin laden copy not poker cheats) so, captured/tried/convicted/forced to play every hand UTG for the rest of their lives, etc etc.

I repeatedly felt cheated in the upper limit limit ring games and heads up tables. Russ would tell me invariably that there were no evidence of cheating and he looked over the hand histories personally. I was not satisfied and asked for the session hand histories with cards shown for every player in the pot. To which I was told that it was a violation of those players privacy. While I can understand that, I only asked for the hands specific to my suspicions.

Re: The UB Scandal Continues
why aren't people exploitig the media option more.
We're sitting around for months waiting for 60min to make this a national story. Has anyone called date line? cnn? ny times, wsj, etc etc? this is a breaking news story that will get much better coverage now than in 2-3months when 60min is done.
Its a story with a good lead, and interesting developments, 60min thinks so apparently, why shouldnt anyone else realize it? Someone with some person connection to the story should start calling news rooms.

I have emailed links to msnbc, several sports blogs, and also a friend who is a columnist at the phhiladelphia inquirer. Im hoping someone returns these emails tomorrow since I sent saturday mornin. My buddy at the inquirer would like to run the story, but unfortunately its not up to him. Also, a lawyer friend of mine has confirmed what skallagrim among others have said. If we can get proof that russ h was using these super user accounts from his residense in nevada, he can be in serious ****.
