It would seem this is bad news for online poker when an online gaming opponent like Casino Mogul Steve Wynn gains such a prominent position.

From the above link:

"Wynn also stopped selling Tom Ford’s cosmetics and sunglasses last month in his Wynn Las Vegas hotel after the designer said he wouldn’t design clothes for incoming first lady Melania Trump to wear."

Liberatus is the end of online poker? Do you mean if you have a supercomputer that can take up to 2mins to make a decision on each street (mostly the turn) in HUNL only? Yes online poker is really on its last legs due to liberatus.

Talk about not thinking ahead.

In five years the Libratus you see today will probably be on an App and be able to beat 99% of everyone online.

there are other forms of poker other than HU NL in case u aren't trolling. 6max NL is far harder to solve. I assume plo is even harder than NL. you've still got plenty of time.

No impact. Online gambling wasn't going to be approved by the Trump administration or passed by a GOP congress, anyway.

No, I do not mean that. Libratus is essentially a generation 1 proof of concept. I would imagine that further development of it would lead to greater efficiency and better strategy. Obviously, I don't know the extent to which Libratus's play would degrade if its authors cut the tank time to fifteen seconds.

And you'll note that I didn't state a time frame. It could well be years. But the idea that a bot can and will beat any human player spells the ultimate end of online poker.

I used to play a fair amount, never profitably. But bumhunting, bots, huds, and illegality turned me off to it. I wouldn't be likely to go back no matter what. But this to me is the long term nail in the coffin.

That doesn't mean it won't get worse, though. That's the point of the thread.

Libratus will not be public, the algorithm that does all the legwork is their baby.

However bot makers seeing it's success would want to try reverse engineer some half assed version of it but that's gonna be hard without the mirroed hh's that won't be released. But let's play they made it anyway , it would get some success but that is a long way down the road + There just isn't much of a money incentive as ppl will stop giving any opponent action so quickly. If you are good enough to make anything remotely as good as libratus is scooped up by Silicon Valley and getting a actual career / life

Spotted a Fox News reader..

I don't think that will have any significant impact on online poker. It's not like any legalization would have been done with that government anyway. Maybe things get worse, but how bad can it really get compared to the status quo?

It was at 0% and remains at 0% chance.

Wynn already had Trump's ear. His position at RNC doesn't change anything with regard to his influence over online gambling.

When we award a 10/10 to the heydays of online poker and a 5 to right before Black Friday, we're prolly somewhere between 0.3 - 0.7 right now in the US.

So yes, I am serious.

Libratus is scalable. If someone can get something close to it working, it will quickly begin to show up all over.

Sure, I read Fox. So too do I read Slate, and I'm absolutely in favor of legalizing online poker. The dickhead Feds never should have criminalized it. If it is at .5 now, I believe Libratus will take it to .1 over the next several years.

Amaya made almost 800 million dollars from poker in 2016. That is obviously rake and not profit, but that's a sufficiently large marketplace to justify some bright boy pouring ten million dollars into an operationally workable Libratus copy. I have no idea at all if that amount would do the trick, but the point is that a proof of concept has now been completed.

The more online poker opponents directly tied to Trump the better. They're not going to take the time to go after what we have left when they have so many other targets, and when this administration inevitably burns, they can go down with it.

Which is the story? Wynn boycotting Ford,or Ford boycotting Melania?

My 2 cents,poker/igaming remains a states rights issue.Root for NY to pass poker bill this year.
