Have played with him a few times at Aussie millions he's a class act and one of the end bosses of sports betting, his company starlizard is very interesting to read about. Pretty awesome that he brought Brighton back from the brink of bankruptcy to the epl.

being promoted to the premiership is worth north of £200m.

I assume he hasn't stuck all his own $ into brighton though, they've recently built a new stadium and state of the art training facilities so there's a few hundred mil been spent over there the last 3-4 years.

Saw an interesting graph of Brighton's position in the different leagues they've occupied since 2009. His influence seems significant. The short of it is he took them from a mid table team in the third division, to this year qualifying for the Premier League.

He told me at the table when I was playing with him a year and a half ago or so that he had put a lot of money into the club for not much of a financial return but that he would get it all back and more if Brighton made it to the EPL and that he wasn't doing it for profit but simply because he was a lifelong Brighton supporter and he wanted to see them in the premier league

If you're rich enough to try and make it happen which he clearly is, why wouldn't you? In any case pretty awesome to see it pay off for one of the end bosses of sports betting and pretty cool that a well known poker player now owns an EPL club. I decided to become a Brighton fan a couple seasons ago, will be interesting to see how they go in the EPL, I think they'll find a way to stay up if they recruit well which is likely.

^ i mean there's being rich and putting in a few mil and then there's pummelling £200-300m into Brighton and building the stadium/training facilities. Did he ever have that kind of money? I have read about him being a big time sports better but was he ever rich enough to drop that kind of money on his local team?

Either way it's paid off now, for the next 2-3 seasons regardless of whether they get relegated or not (back to championship) they receive balloon payments from the premier league for the first couple years after relegation. These are also worth 50m+.

I'd say he deserves more credit really, £200-300m to get to the Premiership sounds really cheap when you consider the money on offer at some of these clubs.

No. They're a syndicate/betting company (placing bets, not taking them).

They apparently sell "tips" to private clients but no idea how it works. Probably very expensive!

This gives a decent idea of what they do - https://www.businessinsider.com.au/i...y-bloom-2016-2

"Bloom, a veteran gambler and owner of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, made millions setting up an online bookmaker and poker websites in the 2000s and his net worth — which is a mystery — is estimated by some to run into the billions."

If you google starlizard it makes for interesting reading no one knows his exact net worth but it's hundreds of millions to over a billion at most estimates
