Played some good poker in the part of the vid I watched. Mannerisms seemed similar to stuff on HSP and PAD

Does Dwan speak Chinese yet? You'd think he'd learn to be able to ask his captors for some water.

There's a big chunk of players that speak English. Most the top HK tournament players do. But even when so, the majority of the verbal bets are not in English. The dealers translate it though. Sometimes will get a dealer that calls all the action in both languages. In Vegas most places it doesn't work that way. Someone raises and you have to ask how much is that if want to know - they don't just tell you. But in Macau often times the dealers are doing like a play by play repeating how much the bet is. As in like: raise 1600. Calls 1600. Raise to 3000. Etc. This happens more often when it is clear there are multiple languages at the table. Other times everything is in Cantonese and then the dealer just translates for who they know or assume doesn't understand.

In Dwan's case though, if the game he regularly plays isn't primarily in English, I'd still be quite surprised if by now he isn't fluent in the numbers. It really doesn't take that long. I gamble regularly in multiple Asian languages. I can understand the numbers fluently and also the majority of the language that is specific to the game. If someone says something like "we have the same hand" in any of the languages I'll know what they said. If play that long it is hard not to just eventually pick it up.

Here's the Youtube play list to all the vids from tournament. Unfortunately it's all Chinese commentary.

You didn't address the bigger point, what language(s) do his day-to-day captors speak.

This whole thread is more or less speculation, not sure why PH's what I assume to be honest anecdotes wouldn't be one of the more credible sources we've seen ITT.

Seems fairly obvious Durrr doesn't think the challenge thing is as black and white as we all do, and it seems like Jungle, the only one wronged, kind of seems to agree. Just cause Polk shouts about it to bring in viewers doesn't mean much, there is clearly a lot we don't know, given that and the fact that the Haralabob story is pure speculation, it seems about as likely as any other option that Durrr has been doing pretty damned well this whole time and just doesn't feel he's done much wrong. I know this isn't as much fun as thinking hes flat broke in a triad dungeon, but it seems more likely than most here seem to think imo.

Something I haven't been able to get passed when since all this durrr broke talk has started, is the fact that he's constantly been confirmed to be playing in the sickest live games ever, do we really think after, what, 4-6 years of playing these games he's stuck a bunch? Even if he's a complete dinosaur online I really doubt he is ever a dog in any live NL cash game he sits.

Not the best comparison, generally speaking it sure seems like most of the big shots are aware of how the other big shots are doing. Maybe not to the dollar accuracy but, more or less aware. I mean how many of the top guys have been on Joeys pod, some of which used to be his best friends, and seemed utterly clueless about Durrrs results or what he's up to at all? I'm sure these guys would never say something specific probably, but I feel there would be at min more hints about it. Also these are live games, not anon online.

Hey I could be dead wrong about these assumptions, regardless though the guy is just really interesting to me, especially if he goes the Bobby Fischer route to boot.

There was a big rumor going around that Tom lost set over set for like 20 million dollars. Luck can play a big factor when the stakes are as high as the Macau games. Who knows though, Tom could be up 50 million in these games.

I think jungleman confirmed this, still it's one pot, he's supposedly been playing these games for years, hard to believe he's stuck or w/e.
