Hellmuth wins another bracelet and all of a sudden, his shilling for Ultimate Bet is totally forgotten and the guy is a hero.
Dwan, on the other hand, hasn't been quite so visible for a while, so his offer to stump up a mil out of his own pocket towards making players losses good is forgotten and the guy is a douche because he thinks for too long in a couple of hands on TV.
I think peopel are being too harsh on dwans comments. When he says stuff like people taking ages is 90% holly wood, hes probably just giving his honest opinion
Personally i havent noticd this 'epidemic' et..
And equally I could say ok look at Isildur1 - the kid takes less than a second to fold / re raise all in the complete oppositte of tanking. And look how good he is at Hold em
I agree with what he's saying. At the home games I used to play, around the time when Dwan was on TV a lot, loads of the players started doing that mouth-open-head-rocking thing he had going on for a while. And the look up at the sky in exasperation thing too. So it seems that people do imitate what they see on the TV shows (consciously or not I don't know...)
I can see how people thing its conceited if he says others are Hollywooding and he was legitimately considering his decision though. However, his decisions were 100s of bbs deep in a cash games, so people tanking for minutes on a 15bb tournament decision isn't really comparable.

This. Tom is clearly one of the better human beings in poker. Not sure how people are all pro-hellmuth and anti-dwan.
I like the fact that the article tries to sound like its a balanced debate by saying "at least two people disagreed with him on twitter" WOW... All two of them!
Must be all internet players ITT because the truth is that there are many more attention whore/hollywood/tanks-for-nothing players in the game now, and they sometimes make live play miserable.
And yes TD is partly responsible. Great guy, it seems, too, btw, but he has influenced the 20-something wannabee's in the wrong way. Tanks-for-nothing douches are more problematic than hoodie-up douches or sunglasses-wearing douches because the tanking guys slow the game down so much EVERYONE loses. The fish, who want to have fun (it's no fun watching a drama queen ... sitting there), the pros who want to earn, the dealers who get tipped per hand and the house that wants to drop.
That latter point is why every card room should feel free to bar excessive tankers. I pointed out a player at the V once and told the floor "Watch this guy play and see how much money he's costing the house per hour."
That floor later concluded it was ~$25 an hour. I would have made it $35, but, whatever, it's a ban-worthy number.
A card room can ban players for poor etiquette. Tanking for nothing is that.
Thats to funny, basically everyone has been doing it for a long ass time. People in movies have done it decades ago but Durrrr influenced them all even befoer he was a sperm.....
