The presentation called Reinventing Gaming at TEDx includes a lot of concepts that you already know as poker players. But the presentation presents poker as a 'martial art', a way of thinking.
I must admit I used to find myself sometimes thinking poker when making life decisions, having conversations with my wife (a concept of bluffing is really useful haha). But after the presentation it really makes you think about thinking more often.

Reason: just learned the BB codes :)
Thought about this concept for a long time...thinking poker in everday life.
Perhaps it's the other way around...everyday life experiences impact on how well or poor ones poker game is played. If you're sucessful in everyday life with things like academics, career, family, athletics etc... you'll probably make a decent go of it in the game of poker.
Most of the decent players who play full time would have made out pretty good at anything they put their mind to outside of the poker world.
The video was cool, but I think he could have done a way better job of simplifying and clarifying the idea of being results-oriented. Talking about hand ranges seemed really unnecessary to me, and at some points it seemed like he was deviating pretty far off topic.
I think he was illustrating the point by painting a picture using something that other non players might be able to grasp.
In essence, his realizations about game theory are pretty darn freshman in nature in that, if you don't already realize how important it is to call off in spots even though you know you may be beat, then you have a real problem in your game based around exploitability.
Still, I always enjoy a nicely orated piece on a subject that I truly love.
+1 shout out for all things TED... I have been a long term admirer of that conference.
This is nothing new. Poker is just probably the first time some of you experienced thinking rationally and logically about things. Anyone unwilling to submit their ideas and beliefs to criticism is ultimately an idiot.
