Unless I'm missing a level here, surely the softness of the games is outweighed by the fact that even if you're only 4-tabling, you play 8-10 x more hands/hour online. Again I have a tournament background rather than cash, and I appreciate that OP's question was about cash, but I'm sure there are parallels. Live UK tournaments are vvv soft but what's the point of playing anything less than £1K when you only get 20 hands/hour, and that doesn't even include travelling/hanging around time.

I wonder about this. I think we have a culture of entitlement before the fact and blame afterwards, both of which we prefer to knuckling down and actually becoming any good at anything.

also, the british tv celeb regulars seem pretty poor on the whole with a couple exceptions, i espec compared to the americans for example. all fur coat and no knickers, amirite?.

im thinking maybe the poor play on uk tv contributes to the lack of progress.

dunno, its a wierd situation for a nation that plays poker so much.

According to Highstakes DB since 1st Jan, Chufty's played around as many high stakes hands on FT as anyone, about 60k. It says 'all game types' but I don't think it tracks horse which he also plays.

I suppose it can be hard to tell if someone sucks (at these levels) or not from just watching the game rather than playing in it. Maybe by the end of the year the 'heater' will be exposed for what it is if he's that bad.

I know of at least a couple of players netting £75k plus a year in fairly modest sized games. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that many Brits are not as spotlight hungry as perhaps their counterparts across the Atlantic might be, and are quite happy to stay "hovering under the radar" and making fairly nice livings for themselves.

i played a few gukpt 1k tourneys in last 12 months, didnt cash in any ob, but yeah they are really surprising soft, id say the equivalent to an online 50 buck freezeout
