tbh, though I haven't pried, I think he already has that catered for, and he still enjoys the game. Poker has paid for a large country house on 7 acres of land and has supported him and his family in a more than comfortable lifestyle for more than 20 years. If some of the nosebleeders around here can make the same claim 10 years or so from now then they'll probably appreciate what an achievement this is, especially considering that the vast majority of this came before the online poker boom.

i havent read the whole topic but u guys have lots of good players, play2kill (who plays on just about every site under different usernames), christopers, and some other good regs u guys wouldnt have heard of. For those of you guys refering to betfair, dont just assume someone playing 250 500nl or 100 200nl is good lol but there r some good regs from the UK in those games.

it might have something to do with the fact that 90% of people here will refuse to take you seriously here if you consider playing poker 'professionally'. I think the British mentality is very much "you must work hard in a good job to be a success in life", and we get a lot of social pressure from family / friends to tow the line. Maybe this is more of a factor here than in other countries like the US where older generations are more comfortable with poker. We'd probably be ok here if we were playing bridge or chess...

I've been beating 400 for 5ptbb and am only just about starting to feel that my family are accepting my 'career choice'.

the high stakes games on betfair seem a real mixed bunch. There are some solid UK regs there but sometimes you get some absolute random terrible players from eastern europe (probably bored sports gambling degens with more money than sense) sitting down at very high limits and donating to the regs.
