it might have something to do with the fact that 90% of people here will refuse to take you seriously here if you consider playing poker 'professionally'. I think the British mentality is very much "you must work hard in a good job to be a success in life", and we get a lot of social pressure from family / friends to tow the line. Maybe this is more of a factor here than in other countries like the US where older generations are more comfortable with poker. We'd probably be ok here if we were playing bridge or chess...
