My only Ted Forrest story...

2006 WSOP Main Event

Was the start of Day 3, about 1000 left or so I was average in chips (90k or so I think). Getting close to the money. Of course go on an all night bender the night before so wake up to my friend who was in the room with me yelling at me to get up because i was gonna be late. Anyways throw on clothes, run down to the taxi line, get to the Rio about 1155, walk as fast as I can to my seat, sit down in time to get AK, Ted who i knew from the redraw the night before is two seats to my right and has raised. I just call. Flop comes A53 hearts. I look down and sure enough I have K hearts. He bets i raise he calls. Turn is a black 8, he checks I bet he min raises, uh oh, well at least I still have that heart draw. River is other black 8, counterfeiting any of his 2 pairs etc. He puts me in which isnt that much more at this pt, I of course call and he has 24 hearts. Well that sucked, and there is TF sitting there with his mullet and amazing track suit with this smug semi smile on his face as he rakes the pot.

So ya I guess I got owned by Ted...

Ted Forrest is the man whom John Malcovich portrayed in the movie Rounders. Many years ago Ted used to have an Oreo cookie tell, which is obvious to the astute Rounders viewer. For those who don't know what it was, I'll do you a solid and reveal the truth about it to you. When Teddy discarded the cookie, he was weak and when he ate it, he was strong.

Now we can all agree that Teddy KGB is a mysterious sounding name, hence the mystery about Ted Forrests' name that Gobbo unearthed. Put that fact together with the fact that Ted has gotten over his cookie tell after Mikey beat the pants off him and I think we have a solid conspiracy theory.

Or maybe KGB was really TJ Cookier? Now I'm stumped. I'll never figrue out who Worm is supposed to be.

For those that have read Prof/Banker/Suicide King - is it just me or did the book make it seem like Beal did MUCH better that Grey is saying here? I remember all this stuff about Beal using a clock to randomize his action and doing all this math, becoming super tough to play against.

Professional gamblers, even polite and well spoken ones, lie about their exploits. Grey's story was cool, fun to listen to, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn it was full of exaggerations.

Haven't you noticed the old time big game players all sort of prop each other up in the public eye and pretend they are all winning players, when certainly some of them are not? I'm reminded of even players like Barry thinking/claiming that Chip Reece was a hugely winning online player, but come to find out (and correct me if I'm wrong) all the accounts associated with him were 6 figure losers for the periods they were tracked.

So in Grey's account, even though he admits they got lucky, they all made out great, and Beal was basically a fool. One of those foolish self-made billionaires who carries on like an idiot and has no idea when he is totally outclassed or being taken advantage of. Sure. And maybe it's true... I'm just saying, I wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't true.

yeah the dude who wrote that book either doesn't understand HU variance or intentionally tried to make it more exciting for the casual reader (very likely). I like the parts where if the pro is first down money but then ends up winning 20-30 big blinds it's a clear sign that he picked up some kind of read or figured out Beal's game.

that 3 part cardplayer article was ****ing awesome.

Before Ted was old enough to legally enter a casino, he was stranded in the wilderness, robbed at knifepoint, and so broke he had to go for days without eating. Even more bizarre than that combination of events was Ted's overall impression that they were great experiences. In 1980, the summer before he turned 16, he traveled 2,500 miles by bus to the Grand Canyon and spent five weeks hiking and camping. He did this alone - no parents, friends, youth groups, or chaperones.
crazy childhood..

damn if u got some extra time on your hands its a realy good read

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think none of those accounts were actually confirmed to be his and most of the period during which he played and the games he played (mix, stud, omaha8) weren't tracked.

NVG would claim Phil Ivey was a live donk who was a huge loser online if there wren't verifiable data to prove otherwise.

In a video interview after Mike won the NBC HE, he said he didn't owe anyone any money. IIRC it was the interview with the German (?) guy. That got me thinking he settled with Ted.
I could probably search it out if nobody can confirm it.
