I wish Barry would write down his thoughts on some of the new players. His segments on his website is some of the best insight we've had to the high stakes live players.

I would put him in my top 10 for sure, close to top 5. Maybe not if it were merely based on just wins or bracelets obv, but for his reading and evaluating skills. Ted is also one of the few that can strike ungodly fear into you.

I remember watching him once at Binions and he got a guy (who turned out to be very good later in his career) to lay dawn a set of 10's on a K10832 rainbow board. OTR Ted bet, this guy raised, and Ted put in the greatest value 3 bet ever. With past action he was getting like 4 or 5:1 on a call and he said "How do you run so good. You have to be the luckiest mf'er on the planet. I'll show you what real players can do" and mucked face up. Ted flipped over J4os and didnt say a word.

He does have some compulsion to back losing investments and ranks at the top in terms of degens. Its kinda sick if you think about it, but it seems he gets off on watching people put themselves through hell for a bet. And most of his bets take place over the course of 6 months to a year+. I think he feels empowered by the long term psychological control he has on others. Pretty deep metagame imo.

Ted just seems like a very decent guy for a poker player.... Alot of these other pros are just very grimmmy even after they've made their millions w ftp and tourneys etc... I mean look at antonio and laak they just angle shoot every way shape and form in games.... it's disgusting at some point when u make enough money you shouldn't have to pull moves in games

BackI remember reading about his prop bets, it's foggy but I recall one about learning to do a back flip or somersault within like a month and one about drinking 10 beers in 30 minutes or an hour, both I think were succesfull. Loves to bet on people's weight iirc.

You would think it would be impossible to be that legendary and wear that mullet, but he really pulls it off. . .

Last year, a friend of mine was playing $1/$2 in AC and Ted sits down with a very young asian girl. Unfortunately, my friend was there on a work related trip and had to leave after an hour.

Phil Laak in particular has a pretty bad reputation here in NYC.

I have only one Ted Forrest story and it wasn't a pretty one for me. I was at the final table of the $1,500 WSOP Limit Hold'em event in 2003 at Binions. There were five players left and we took a break to talk about a deal. One guy, Mohammed ? has about half the chips in play. The rest of us are all close on chips. First prize is 290K and second is 145K. We agree to give Mohammed second money and us four will split the rest. It comes to 100K each! Sweet deal right, as fifth place pays only 35K.

We go back to the table and tell the directors (Jim Miller and Matt Savage) that we've made a deal. Just then Ted Forrest and Huck Seed walk in and tell Mohammed to hold up (they were staking him). Huck Seed says something to the effect of, "Look at this table, you can beat these guys." They tell him to call off the deal. I'm really pissed, I wanted that 100K bad!

You probably know the rest of the story. I get all my money in with Q's on a flop of 2,5,8 and the turn card was a 7. Mohammed had the 4,6 and called my pre flop raise. I finished fifth for 35K. Ted and Huck cost me 65K! Naturally, Mohammed went on to win the tournament and the 290K. Shortly after that I never saw Mohammed again. I heard he moved back to the Middle East.

I've seen Ted and Huck since then, but never said a word about it to them. Wouldn't make any difference anyway, would it?

Obviously Ted & Huck were right? If they stake him they can do whatever they want. If I stake a player, and I think he can beat all of the players at the finaltable. WHY would I want him to make a deal?

I would think most would agree that the backers have the say so. But the player shoulndt have even talked about a deal without having the go ahead by the backers.

I looked it up. The winner's name was Mohamad Ibrahim. He was a fairly regular player at tournaments in L.A., but disappeared shortly after this win, never to be seen again. ???
