Have a busy weekend but i'm going to be at Aussie Millions and assuming Crown allows me to do so will get signatures from the live players who also play online but don't necessarily follow 2p2/online poker news in general supporting our cause

Signed, shared with a lot of high profile Aus poker players, will maybe see if I can get Shane Warne, Joe Hachem etc on board

Petition jumped 8 sigs within a cpl mins of me sending msgs out, a few retweets etc anyone who uses Twitter/FB should share the petition to get the whole Aus poker community aware of it

If they ban online poker people will just find other forms of gambling and/or play poker at casino
Please don't chuck away the freedom argument so readily. If you accept the premise that the state should ban gambling choices then fully expect Poker to be banned.

IMHO trying to get Xenophon to exempt Poker is a hopeless cause, he knows enough to know it is a bit different but he will not complicate his anti gambling stance - in any case the new player or the vulnerable addict will lose at poker.

I just edited it slightly, I changed it to third person and I have generalised some of the parts to make it more inclusive. For example, there was stuff particularly about my wife and I which I have now change to a married person and their spouse.

I have also sent it over to Swoop to have a look at so he can make any changes that seem relevant. As I said before if anyone wants to contribute any different thoughts please let me know!
Maybe a bit late but the only online argument vs licenced venue that was missed was how accessible online can be for the sick or disabled. I have heard of thoose hooked up on chemotherapy or dialysis playing penny poker tournaments as very effective "flow" activity, the speed of play means a 1 table tournament is less of a strain than reading which equires greater concetration or even watching a film and keeping track of plot/characters.

That was the petition put together by the owner of Poker Asia Pacific when the site was given the order to close down prior to the IGA Amendment 2016 being considered by the government earlier in the year. The new one deals specifically with Joey Del's proposal in response to the current events, but the general sentiment is the same, in that we all believe that online poker should be legal in Australia.

Tonnamunz; will see you at AM, we should know a lot more by then, i'm sure we'll have some updates from Joey soon as to how we should best proceed as a community

I have signed the petition and shared it on social media platforms, I will continue to do so over the next month or so, hopefully we can get some momentum on this. Happy to help in any other reasonable way I can.

Big thanks to joey and oliver. I sent Oliver a PM a little while back to thank him for his efforts, he's been really exceptional.

Great work to all of you that have signed this so far. We already have over 300 signatures and it has only been 24 hours! I was hoping that we might be able to get this to 1000. At this rate maybe I should set my sights a bit higher! :-)

We really need as many supporters as possible. The plan is to show this petition to MPs and Senators in order to make aware that there is a significant amount of people that care about this issue. Obviously the more support we can get the merrier.

A lot of people are asking what they can do to help. I think the key thing at the moment is to just share and promote this petition throughout your network. The more conversation we can get going the better.

My suggestion is to vary these conversations. There is the obvious poker element that needs to be discussed with poker players. But when speaking about others perhaps focus on our freedom as Australian citizens to enjoy any hobby that we want.

Those of you from NSW will have seen this exact argument play out when people revolted against a proposed ban of greyhound racing. Most Australians don't care much for greyhound racing, but they do support freedom and the right for people to take part in activities that they choose.

Please keep sharing and promoting. We really can't share this petition on Facebook, Twitter and whatever else people use these days enough times. We only have a few months to build momentum on this. Now is the perfect time given it is holidays and we are in the lead up to the Aussie Millions.

Keep talking and sharing, the bigger we make this thing, the harder it is going to be for us to be ignored!

So with that in mind, here once again is the link. If you haven't signed it yet please do so. If you have, get on Social Media and share this again.

Thanks for your awesome work and let's keep it going!

Thanks everyone, more than happy to try and help.

Petition is up to about 650 signatures which is great. Would love it to get to 1k before we start actively sending it to decision makers. Anyone who hasn't shared it please do so!

The counter argument to our “don’t restrict our liberties” argument from the IGA committee was “sorry guys, it’s for the greater good”. If that’s their real focus, here are some interesting facts…..

Productivity Commission Inquiry Report, No. 50, 26 February 2010
· “Most policy interest centres on people playing regularly on the ‘pokies’. Around 600 000 Australians (4 per cent of the adult population) play at least weekly.”
· “While survey results vary, around 15 per cent of these regular players (95 000) are ‘problem gamblers’”

Compare this to the Alan Tudge press release 10 November 2016 when the offshore wagering was introduced.
· “Currently hundreds of illegal gambling services are easily accessible on the internet and we know that people are more likely to get into trouble online - 2.7 per cent of interactive gamblers are problem gamblers compared to 0.9 per cent of all gamblers”

The inconsistency is atrocious. So to the Liberal party (who I support), start introducing and implementing comprehensive policies that make a valuable difference and are consistent with Liberal party philosophies.

Anyone who hasn't shared the petition yet on their social media should do so - 1k+ signatures in a week from Australian voters helps show we're not some tiny fringe group

And regarding pokies we all know that for every one person who is a problem gambler with online poker there are literally hundreds of problem gamblers using the pokies at their local club or casino, if the government wanted to use the greater good argument, it's hard to play the pokies for 5 hours even on a 1 cent machine playing all the lines for a minimum bet and not lose $100+ equity which is basically using them as intended, in online poker you can play a couple $1 tournaments and even if you're the worst player in the world only lose a few dollars playing the games 'as intended', not to mention if you actually care to learn strategy in poker you can limit your losses to next to nothing in the long term even if you're just 'average' and losing the rake each tournament, that's 10 tournaments per $1 equity lost at the micros or even in $20 tournaments which is basically where the midstakes starts you're losing $20 EV if you play 10 of them in an evening and are an 'average' player who loses the rake each game.

If they're truly concerned about problem gamblers they'd lower the rake on pokies so they pay back something like 95 cents on the dollar instead of whatever they pay back currently (80-something percent? I forget I did know it once upon a time), but they won't because the club industry likes money and the government likes their tax revenue from them. A pokies 'game' lasts 10 seconds. An online poker hand lasts a minute or two in a cash game and you won't play all of them, and an online tournament can last hours for a single buy-in.

Online poker operators are voluntarily saying 'sure, we'll pay our taxes and licensing fees just let us operate' and it's free money for the government if they want it.

At the end of the day it comes down to does the party of small government have any sense and are their MPs/Senators capable of evaluating evidence and making logical choices. Hopefully sanity prevails.

I sent the petition link/proposal to a friend who is active in the Labor party as well and he said he'd show it to the MP he is close to and get some thought, will report back if anything comes of it. Bipartisan support for exempting online poker from the IGA would be fantastic.

I believe the pay back rate on pokies is 92c or at least in Queensland it is.

That sounds about right. So assuming you can press about once every what 6 seconds at an average of 25c a spin (1c 25 lines) thats 20 cents a minute or a minimum of $12 an hour to play pokies as intended, and a lot of machines only have a 40 or 50 line option so $20-something per hour which yeah over a session is like $100 lost EV.

To lose $100 EV in poker as an average player losing the rake and breaking even against the field you'd need to play a bit over 1k worth of MTTs and to do that in a night you're basically playing upper midstakes. If you play micro MTTs as intended, $1000 in buyins to pay that same hundred in rake will last you weeks as an average player.

Hey guys,

You may have noticed a lot of talk in the media at the moment about Australia's credit rating through S & P.

This is a great opportunity for us to promote the poker issue in a more mainstream way. Here we have an industry begging to be taxed and the government's current proposal is to ban it as opposed to taking that revenue.

Share the petition today on social media and add comments to this effect to hopefully add more people. I did that this morning and noticed a good increase in signatures. We are currently at 710 so we need a little bit more work if we are to get to 1,000!

If easier feel free to just share my FB update:
