Anyone got a gameplan for after Sep 11? I only play on Pokerstars and I'm wondering which site I should play on illegally. What sites will continue to run for Australians?

its not illegal to play poker online in Aus. Its illegal for a company to offer it. The law has always been this, the new amendment just forced out the publicly traded companies fwiw

Does anyone know whether Stars is withdrawing on September 11 Australian time or their time? If they are withdrawing on September 11 our time, then that falls on a Monday, which is Sunday their time, which means we won't have a chance to play any of the big tournaments like the Sunday Million.

I really hope it's September 11 their time so we can at least have one last "Sunday" grind.

I asked them exactly this. The reply I got wasn't very clear, but seemed bad.

Thank you for contacting us.

As you are aware, on August 9 the Australian Parliament passed the Interactive Gambling Amendment Bill (2016) effectively banning all online gambling sites that are not locally licensed under Australian State or Territory law .

We’ve been aware of this day coming and have done our best to keep you informed, but we can confirm that we’ll be closing our real money poker tables to players in Australia, most likely around mid-September. Although we will contact you as soon as a firm date is confirmed, this is very likely to happen before 11th September.

In that case, unfortunately, you won't be able to take part in the tournament.

We will be able to give clear guidance direct to our players on when that will happen once we have a more definite confirmation.

Should you require any more assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again. We are here for you 24/7.

Kind regards,

Kate

Yes on ACR. I have started playing on there and it was a reg fest last night our time. I think ignition tables are anonymous with player names replaced by a random number so you only get session stats.

That said you should def not play a 2 day event where the 2nd day is after the deadline once the firm deadline is announced

Pretty brief but Jenny Williams (ex UKGC CEO) was wonderfully clear on consumer protection and tax revenue. That double punch is absolutely crucial for the politicians - they get to help people and at the same time get extra tax revenue.

This is a killer submission for us.

Had a read; it's about what I expected, slightly disappointed the Betway people weren't able to state that online poker has a lower rate of problem gambling than other forms (which is fairly obvious to anyone familiar with the various forms of gambling) but it's not their area. Lots of good questions on the taxation/revenue side, Duniam seemed interested in that which is good as he is our Liberal Senator on the committee and we'll definitely need him to take our case to the Liberal Party internally if we're going to get favourable legislation out of this.

Overall the submission seems great for us, we have a serious large regulated gambling corporation detailing the revenue the government would be able to collect and saying they'd be willing to be taxed and provide player protections and enter the market is big for us too.

Joey any updates on your end recently, do we know if there are more hearings and if so when etc?

It's quite ironic you will still be able to buy 279 million play chips for 160 usd, guess will have to spin up that free 500k chips we all got (they sell for $4.50)

Is there anything stopping an Aussie site starting up a monthly subscription poker site with play chips, that we could then trade or swap privately for bitcoin?

We should be careful in the claims we make. We should explain how online poker sites can help with problem gamblers and self exclusion but claiming some superiority over other gambling is problematic. I know it attracts people like you and me who are controlled, that bankroll management is key to us, that we look to break even or better and can achieve that but that is not the whole story.

In the UK there are real measures on 16 types of gambling. The one with the lowest participation is poker in pubs and clubs that has a tiny number of participants but it is easily the highest PG rate at 26.8% - that's a product of PG playing many types and so taking up a higher proportion of all players but the same applies to the online poker world, it is niche it has low participation by the general population but like all gambling it attracts addicts. This is why it can be right to say that a higher proportion of online players of all types and online poke players are problem gamblers. They are the early adopters who play all the new games,

If you reduce it to game structure not participation then the ring game vs tournament argument gains credibility.

In poker it is easy to identify problem gamblers and help them - that's the point - not that online poker is better than anything else in terms of attracting problem gamblers.

I have just received this partypoker press release confirming August 31 withdrawal. The statement in its entirity:

Quote:
It has been announced that Australian gambling law is due to change imminently with the introduction of the Interactive Gambling Amendment Act. Sadly, because of this change, gambling firms licenced and operating outside of Australia will be forced to prevent customers resident in Australia from playing on their gambling websites. Therefore, from 31st August 2017 partypoker players will no longer be able to play from Australia. Players’ deposited funds are safe and available for withdrawal.

partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters said, “We regret that this day has come as Australia is a strong poker market. We will continue to work with the Australian player alliance to lobby the government to provide a safe regulated environment for residents to play online poker in the future.”
