Re: South Point Poker to be first Real Money Poker in US

I don't understand all of the talk about opening up to CA. It's not gonna happen.

If South Point doesn't change the software they're using they won't last once some bigger names get in the mix.

In b4 3 tables of 1/2 as the highest stakes and 10% uncapped rake. Can't wait!

as for me, I don't care if they're the ONLY online spot, #COUNTMEOUT

Exclusive: South Point Poker “will be first real-money site in US” [egr - subscriber only]
“Unfortunately [because we are] the first one, the regulator is putting a few more restrictions on us, and wants us to start a little slower than we would like,” explained Gaughan. “We will conform to their wishes, but at the end of the year it will be in full blown site in Nevada. Then we’ll try and go into the other states where it is legal and do some contracts there.

South Point has teamed up with a Vegas web entrepreneur Lawrence Vaughan – CEO and co-founder of employment site jobbi.com – to produce its new gaming platform, after having encountered problems with previous platform suppler Zen Entertainment.
South Point was the first Nevada casino to launch a free-play poker site in October last year, however Gaughan called it was a “disappointing” experience, with the site failing to attract the expected player volumes. “It was with a different company and it just did not work out – we only picked out around 23-24,000 people and I thought it should’ve done a lot better,” he said. “It was complicated and hard to download. [The poor results were] partly down to the provider and partly because I lost interest in it when it didn’t grow as fast as I thought it would.”

I am a poker enthusiast but not sure playing would be +EV. Most of the players will be semi pros so no thanks.

Here is how I come to that range:

NV = 1% of US
US = 20-30% of world poker market

Stars = 200k players at max times

So 200k *. 0.2*0.1 = 400.

Now add 3 x because folks in NV gamble a lot and have gambling tourists and casinos with slots that will have online poker.

= 1200

Now add some factor because legalized market will be will be stronger than grey market.

So I think it's a multitude of 1k. But I'm sure it will be less than 5k for one site. If there will be many networks it's gonna be even worse.

Cake and merge have around 4-5k user at their peak times, so if we are lucky we get as many players as they do today. But given that we are dealing with just one tiny state, it's gonna be very hard to reach enough players for a decent liquidity.
Now divide that by the number of sites that will be offering online poker.

There are many companies that are or will be licensed. I imagine most are looking forward to expand into the rest of the US if and more likely when
that happens.

I predict this will happen. Companies apply and get approved for online poker and for a year you deal with a saturated market of inept poker companies then a year 6month to a Year after Pokerstars buys FTP to regain entry into the US market they will push all other poker companies aside.

God governments are a joke.. I'm sorry. But looking from the outside in, this is pretty comical. Poker is outlawed when the casino's have no control and see the money they aren't getting from gambling and then it's regulated now that the casino's have control.

Well I assume there will be a new big site emerging that will get most of the market.

Else you have to take a different base, i.e. take the full tilt player and other networks that existed next to stars.

But we don't know exactly how big the market will be. However it seems pretty clear to me that we need to pool with other countries and states to come close to what we are expecting from online poker.

Re: South Point Poker to be first Real Money Poker in US

I honestly don't care if this website has a peak of 1k per day with a 10% uncapped rake; we honestly just need a damn site up and running and we can go from there. I am unsure about everyone else, but I sure am sick of fingering my arse and waiting around for the next poker headline to break through.

There is a popular thread in NVG on the latest federal push for regulated iPoker. Nevada passed a law OK'ing it, the DOJ in December said anything goes for states except sports betting. Last month Delaware also passed an iGaming bill including iPoker. Yesterday Georgia announced it will sell scratch-off tickets online (essentially online slot machines) if you're into that.
