The government has recently tabled legislation to ban unregulated online gambling in singapore, within the next 6-9 months. The only exempted sites will be government-linked.

Never forget that Singapore is a dictatorship. They love them a bit of state control.

Remember if you get caught with illegal drugs trying to get to Singapore, it's the DEATH PENALTY. They don't play around there.

Throw a piece of gum or spit and get caught in the street could cost you thousands...thousands.

wouldn't screw around with the law there, went there about 7 years ago and remember a sign indicating that you would get a $500 or so fine for skateboarding in the wrong areas and spitting gum on the floor.

A lot of people criticise the fact that the country is too harsh-particularly the government but they have also build up the country(economically) from virtually nothing so there's that too. Also think they dont want to ban online gambling completely but rather regulate it

Don't mess with the law there, regardless, if you are using a VPN ...
Very risky country authorities to be dealing with..

basically, we've got one big national gambling operator that handles football/numbers/horses called Singapore Pools. They are exempted from all gambling bans because they supposedly use alot of their funds for local charitable causes. So they will now have a monopoly on all forms of gambling online in singapore

Really? You can get death penalty for weed? That's just ridiculous. But I bet pain killers like Oxycodone and Vicodin are legal over there.

It's a strange country for sure. One of their seemingly more draconian laws is the so called 'killer litter' legislation.

Singapore has a lot of high-rise accommodation, a few times a year people are killed or injured by things falling or thrown from balconies. If you let something fall from your apartment you can have your home repossessed and face some serious jail time (like 15 years) even if no-one is hit or injured.

The current perception is that this sentencing is too lenient, since convictions are few and accident continue to happen. The government has installed over 700 CCTV cameras to catch litterbugs, but they've been largely ineffective at catching offenders.

The solution, therefore, may be to punish those who are caught more harshly. I believe that there have been calls for mandatory caning as a minimum sentence for such offences.

way to talk out your ass buddy

where did you get your info on this "current perception". You've plucked up barely 50% of real info and just used that to slant it into a completely one sided argument which just makes you look like a fool.

Have you never heard of maximum and minimum sentences for crimes ? Try not to sound so high and ****ing mighty when you diss my country without knowing **** about it.

The entire purpose of these laws are on the basis of PREVENTIVE DETERRENCE. It doesn't just happen a few times a year and so what if it does? Is a few people dying each year from falling litter an acceptable level of life to you ? And yes I can comment on how full of **** you are because I'm a lawyer IN singapore so i certainly know much more than you about our "archaic crazy dictatorship" laws.

Probably the safest city I've ever been to. I go there lots as I live in Thailand. It's very safe to wander around late at night anywhere with no problems. The street food is excellent. Next time I go I'll just play on Teamviewer to avoid problems.

Mandatory crash helmets and bubblewrap for street walking ldo?

If the people don't like it, then just punish a few with 15-year jail sentences and they'll soon come around to the idea...

carrying a knife on backpack tours is fairly standard i would guess-not necessarily to singapore-but i had forgotten to put it in the luggage. the border police was just wondering how i got through the bangkok airport with that knife. the star was a souvenir from there and i think it's remarkable to seize the star but not the knife.
