What kind of camera did you film with? I use a Canon EOS 7D with either a f/2.8 24-70mm zoom, an f/1.8 85mm prime or (for large-field sports) my 100-400mm. Great image quality but an awful autofocus in video mode. I think this is a symptom of higher-end DSLRs in general right now. Makes me want to buy a cheaper DSLR like the 70D or a higher-end Rebel just for video, then use the 7D for stills.

The challenge of manually focusing while trying to keep up with sports action makes me bow in awe to the NFL Films guys. Or even local sports news camera guys.

I'm completely new to operating cameras, just starting about a week ago. From what I've read, automatic settings mostly suck. I haven't tried using any of them, and have been adjusting the ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc. myself. I'm a typically quick study, but I guess it will take some time to get the hang of focusing on "action" situations rather than stationary subjects.

So how did she wind up in this tournament ?

Smart man. I've shot almost exclusively manual (except for focusing) since Day 1 because part of the fun was seeing what the different things do. I'll occasionally switch to Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority in key situations (e.g. shooting a sporting event in which the athletes move from shaded to sunny areas).

As for shooting video, the AF isn't great on the DSLRs except for the 70D and a few other entry-level models. So yes, you're manually focusing everything. You may want to look into a follow focus kit. There are various types and costs, but the Cliff's version is that it gives you more fine control over the manual focus ring when you're shooting video. I haven't invested in one quite yet as my subjects move around too much (I shoot mostly sports), but I'll be sure to get one the next time I shoot a poker tournament. I can envision some great rack or whip effects from player to player, or player to chips, etc.

you have no idea, last week at bay101 open main event, she calls a total nit's 60 bb 6 bet shove after 5 betting his cold 4 bet, she had QQ, he had AA and he won leaving her with like 4 BB's. That was the start of the most horrendous rant I've seen in quite a while, first she went off on the dealer, calling her by name because it's her hometown, saying that she knew the $#%@ @$#% dealer was gonna bad beat her (makes no sense obv) and that the dealer had it in for her, after 5 minutes of going off on the dealer multiple players came to the dealers defense by simply stating she was doing an excellent job; then the rant went on to her personal life and how she's sooo unlucky and always gets bad beat (does not apply), and finally started randomly going off on all players who said anything to anyone else. One gentlemen laughed at something and she started in on him "why you laughing at me, how dare you! I work so hard!!", she wasn't even in the hand..

It seemed the entire tournament was all about her and her terrible bad luck without regard for anyone else, she started tanking every hand with her 4bb's and used the time to shake her head and bemoan her "bad luck" in the QQ hand, it was completely indulgent, inconsiderate and unwarranted and lasted for about a 1/2 hour.

The best part of the remix is when she dancing around almost in sync with the music. Like she could hear the song in her head.
