I think that they should be against the law - not just criminally illegal.

In 5-10 years when quantum computers are fully developed, they will be fast enough to mimic a human brain on steroids. I believe it would be better to be proactive to prepare for such a reality.

I don't think that simply blocking suspected accounts from the site is a sufficient answer. Another account will be opened and the operation will continue. There has to be some penalty to deter it.
Losing the money in the account would stop them, but I don't see bots being the number 1 issue.

I am happy to hear this. Would you by any chance know what the punishment would be then if one were caught using a bot in one of the Nevada online poker clients?

Jail time would be a justified no doubt.

I pray that HUDs and profit tracking sites are made illegal too. Poker regs will do anything that they can to dry up games though, so it probably won't be long before all the fish playing for fun get berated with their stats and loss figures and leave. Then we can all sit around trying to beat one another "bum hunting."

Re: Should NV make it criminally illegal to operate poker bots?

It should be considered the same way as stealing money from the casino, basically robbery. Obviously state law should apply.

"Penalties (NRS 200.380)
Robbery is a category B felony in Las Vegas, which carries a punishment of two to fifteen years in prison. And whenever a deadly weapon is used in the commission of a Nevada crime such as in "armed robbery," the judge may increase the sentence by one to twenty years as long as the enhancement doesn’t exceed the original sentence. "

Re: Should NV make it criminally illegal to operate poker bots?

Yes, and I could see it being prosecuted in the form of fraud charges. That being said, if I had a ton of money to open my own site, I would make it bot friendly and be transparent about it. Call it something like BOTpokerUS.com and even include an interface where users can define their own actions for specific hands, basically allow them to set up their bot in the client. I'd offer something like 70% effective rakeback and let all the bots grind it out against each other. Let all of the programmers and nerds engage in a battle of wits. I understand this would be a niche market but there also seems to be a large number of people who think bots are easy to beat. All human players would also be allowed, with the understanding that bots are welcome on the site. PM me if you want to invest lol.
