Ryan Riess - Is it time to finally acknowledge him as the best in the world? Ryan Riess - Is it time to finally acknowledge him as the best in the world?

I think Martin Jacobson winning the main event has distracted us from the real world series of poker champion, Ryan Riess. It is easy to forget last years winner with so much hype and attention given to Jacobson. But let's give credit where it's due here for all of his accomplishments since....

After last years victory, Ryan Riess shocked the poker community by declaring himself as the best player in the world. Having 1 year passed since then, we can now start to better evaluate that statement. Since winning the main event, I believe Ryan Riess has solidified himself as the best player in the world with notable finishes such as 2ND place in a charity tournament on the 6th of July, bringing him home a large $2700. Ontop of this extraordinary feat, he also managed 3 min cashes at this years World series of poker in Vegas.

Don't get distracted by Jacobson, or even Dan Colman dominating the high roller events against the best players in the world, closing in on 30 million for the year, whilst still winning hundreds of thousands of dollars at the highest SNG stakes online.........this is all nothing when you put it up against the great Ryan Riess.

I start a thread as a tribute to Ryan, and what do I get for it?? haters. Typical.....You abuse the person who is actually responsible for suggesting to take the "A" out of "Riess the Beast".

I joined 2+2 just to contribute to this thread, as it is something that in particular caught my eye. So yes, long time lurker, first time poster here and hello to you all.

I think where Riess really went wrong was in his image when approaching the final table. Let's be real here, the guy shows up wearing a Megatron Jersey and yes, whilst Megatron is undoubtedly the greatest american gridiron player of his time he does play for a mediocre team. Straight away, you are presenting the image that "hey, I am mediocre".

Further, Riess seems to suggest that the general public actually care about which American Gridiron team he supports. When in reality, we are there to watch you demonstrate why you are the new face of poker.

Which brings me to my next point. General image. Riess had ample time to hit the gym prior to his WSOP Final Table. Put on a bit of lean muscle mass, and hey maybe he would have been taken more seriously. Further to that point, a healthy lifestyle involving fitness and weight lifting may have seen Riess better his performance at the Final Table.

Third point. Riess had the platform to change the way us poker players wear our hair now and in the future. He was going to be seen by everyone. Instead, what does he do? Leaves his hair looking like a flaccid old piece of lettuce curled around his oval head.

The question I really have to ask is, how am I supposed to consider him "Ryan the Best" when his image suggests he is anything from the best?

Thanking you in advance for any replies you might provide.
