pretty good story.

i sat next to him in a tourney at red rock after he did the robbery. he didnt seem too strung out, just tired. was complaining about losing 30k the day before in cash games. seemed like an ok dude (for a whiney degen fish)

the way i remember it is him starting his own thread here, the article said he just replied to a thread. It was something along the lines of, "If you were the biker bandit, how would u get rid of the chips". maybe someone can find it.

9 years for armed robbery isn't even that bad. He probably still has some of those chips stashed somewhere too when he gets out.

I will never not laugh at his naming himself Oceanspray25 (from Cranada).

edit: my own question is answered in the article

I'm 99% sure that the Mike Gennaro (Dominic) mentioned in the article is the same Mike Gennaro that narced on Mike Matusow in 2003. His alias (at the time) to Matusow was Mike Vento.

Would he have gotten away with it if he didn't try to cash in the 25k chips? Or even if he spent the lower denomination chips more wisely and didn't try to live at the Bellagio? Though I assume the same impetus that let him succeed in the 2 robberies are what led to his downfall.

If you read the article, you'll see that by the time he was caught, he'd basically already laundered every chip he had except for the cranberries. It also says that the dealer in question was highly suspicious and the cops were somewhat onto him already, but were going to have a difficult time proving it.

I suspect had he thrown all the cranberries out with the trash, he'd be a free man today.

This story is awesome.

Pretty sick that he would almost certainly be free if he tossed the 25ks.

Good stuff. Crime, obviously, doesn't pay. I wonder what feels worse: prison sentence or knowledge that your actions resulted in getting your dad fired from his job. Before the next time I travel to Vegas I should PM the Tripod and offer to buy him a few drinks.

So, "hypothetically", if I were to find a cranberry in the street, would I not be able to cash it?

You'll have a hard time cashing $500 chips at some casinos.

Last year I was playing craps at Hooters Casino in Vegas and cashed out like $800. The craps table was literally 10 steps to the cage, and I was on the nearest side to the cage. I had to wait at the cage for 3-5 minutes while they verified the chips.

They put a legal ad in the back of the Las Vegas Review Journal for a certain amount of weeks and give a certain amount of time for all the outstanding chips to be brought to the cage for redemption. Once the specified date and time passes the chip is worthless.

Just found this! Here's the notice cancelling the Bellagio 25k chips in todays paper.

http://www.legalnotice.org/pl/review...howNotice.aspx

PUBLIC NOTICE Redemption of Bellagio Chips Effective December 22, 2010 Pursuant to Regulation 12.070(2)(c) of the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, effective December 22, 2010, the Bellagio Casino Hotel is discontinuing the standard $25,000 denomination gaming chip which is red with gray inlay and V shaped rose insert. These chips may be redeemed 24 hours a day at the Bellagio Main Casino Cage through April 22, 2011. PUB: Dec. 21, 24, 28, 31, 2010 LV Review-Journal

Hey B robber, congratulations, after April 22nd you have some really nice home game chips.

$800 is probably a the biggest cashout they had seen for hours there.

You would not.

And for the most part, found money (property) is not automatically yours to keep.

Oh but it does, only the hours are far worse than most people think.
