The problem is that they don't want him to just patch the leaks. They want him to be those string quartet guys from the movie that play while the ship is sinking.

They want him telling the passengers on board that everything is fine, and there's no need for a lifeboat. They want him to sell tickets.

They could have just let him walk too, and not have had to worry about responding to a lawsuit. If they had let him out of his contract, does anyone really think we would have heard anything more than a short respectful press statement from ivey that said "FTP is super and theyve been great to me, but now that theyre no longer serving the US market, its time for me to move in a diff direction"?
