Ouch, thank you for the heads up much appreciated. They must feel like a certain dietary supplement in the 1980's with the way Cardplayer has fallen in the community. So I guess I will go read the article now. I hope her position here is more thought out then when she popped into the whojedi fiasco .

Seems fairly balanced except for the talk about the "inherently sexist" nature of poker terms such as "bubble boy," which got into the uber-PC sphere that I have come to associate with the decay of American society.

I have all the respect in the world for Vannessa Selbst as a player, but splitting hairs about people saying "may the best man win" or using the term "bubble boy" seems ridonkulous. Saving grace is that it is an off-the-cuff Tweet, not a formal complaint.

Also, Jennifer Newell didn't write that particular article, although she's done many on the subject in the past.

Newsflash: there are tons of social misfits and *******s in poker rooms. Woman aren't subject to more abuse or inappropriate comments than are men.

They want all this?

Ladies nights

Discounts on rake for women

Gender-specific leaderboards during tournament series

Instructional classes, clinics, and seminars for women given by professional female players

Short buy-in cash games with capped betting (which would tame the aggression factor a bit)

Highlighting the performances of top women players in each local poker room

Undoubtedly. Free/reduced entry to clubs for women is legal on a state by state basis, and has challenges to this have never succeeded nationally.

I'd love to hear Vanessa Selbst's opinion on when a site sponsors a women based 95% on her looks and only 5% on her playing ability?

Imo this type of marketing can draw women into the game but it's cheap gimmick marketing that has no staying power and this "woman" will have to be replaced every few years as her poker ability is shown not to be of par.

I much prefer a woman being sponsored based on her poker ability and if she happens to be good looking then that's just a bonus I guess.

Its almost impossible to judge the skill of a player as opposed to looks or so called interesting personality.

Lower rake for men would make me 'feel more at ease' too...

Remember when women tennis players won the right to have equal prize pools at grand slam events?
I don't seem to remember them fighting so hard for the right to play the same number of sets....

Look harder bro.

I support all suggestions to eliminate sexism in poker and increase the number of women who play.

What this article fails to mention is that women have more opportunities (sponsorships, invitation to televised cash games, ect.) in poker over their male counterparts of equal skill level.

And this is where the conflict starts. Generalizing and grunching here but Women want equality but have no qualms about using sex appeal to get sponsorships. The more rewards that go to good looking Women as opposed to the genuinely skilled poker Women, the further Women's equality goes backwards in poker.

I was going to list all the internal contradictions in the article and point out all the nonsensical points, but I didn't want Jennifer Newell to report me for 'spam' again.
