Re: RIP Amir Vahedi

Last Spring at the Commerce during the California Poker Championships Amir and I were at the same tables for a very long time in an Omaha8 event. He was a really nice guy, and very funny. I was obviously a live tourney noob but he wasn't condescending or dismissive at all. Many females came over and did the hug-and-how-are you Amir thing during the evening.

Amir in the 3 seat, random in the 4 seat, I'm in the 5 seat. A hand is being played but we three are not in it. Random drinks some sort of bottled energy drink and then examines the bottle's label. Amir watches him drain it and says "You know, you should read the label *before* you drink it."

It was funny. We laughed. Thank you, Amir. Rest in peace.

Poker was much different back then, and his passing just reminds me how life keeps moving forward and things change. I was as shocked as I was jealous of his WSOPME run. He was very aggressive, but nothing "special" back then and when he made it big a few years later it really hit home for me, as far as how much I ****ed my life up. I'll miss those days, and I haven't seen him since then, but I always wanted to say hi if I did see him again. Guess I won't get that chance.
I used to play in all those daily's as well and remember when Amir first started playing. Like you said, aggressive...perhaps overly so, and nothing special.

But.....

Amir always struck me as the guy who was paying attention to what was going on...and learning and soaking everything up.

It surprised me too how good he got.....but it really shouldn't have. It was pretty obvious he was learning more every time he played.

And the thing most impressive was it seemed to at least some extent he improved the person he was. Thats very evident by the comments in this thread...how much he influenced people and the lengths he went to in order to treat everyone well.

Re: RIP Amir Vahedi

Well said Sternroolz. Kenna James was a dealer/TD back then, remember that?

By the way, had a nice talk with Andy bloch about Amir last night. It was in one of the FTP donation tourneys for Haiti. Andy said he was just as shocked, and saddened, and that he was just reading an article about diabetes the day before on NPR. I asked him what that was and he gave me a link, I'll see if I can find it. I think it was this: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=1516277

And I guess he meant listening.
