If you play rooms outside portugal, u obey the law of the country u r in. when people speak about open market they are speaking about being able to play against the rest of the world as far as i understand.

Dear xxxxxxxx,

PokerStars is applying for an online gaming license in Portugal under the newly established regulatory regime. During this application process we will no longer offer real money games in Portugal. We have begun the technical work required to stop real money games and expect that to be completed no later than Monday July 13.

We regret this inconvenience, and hope we will soon be able to offer you real money play. For now, we invite you to continue playing with your existing account on our play money site here.

When we have fully closed access to our real money games we will provide further communication about VIP Status progress and other account assets such as FPPs and tournaments. At that time the player to player transfer feature will also be disabled.

Meanwhile, your account will remain open and accessible, and your funds may be withdrawn at any time.

Regards,
PokerStars

We had some developments and we will have more definitive info by August.

As i write, some operators quited already (Bet-at-Home, Will Hill, 888 Bet, Coral, BetVictor, 24hBet, 888sports, Betdaq, Ladbrokes and PKR) and others like stars and ftp have suspended real money games to Portuguese players starting monday the 13th (vowing to apply for licenses) untill they have a license.

There were some projects of by-laws known that are being revised untill the end of July and soon after that we will know its final version(s).

So now we have to wait a few more days to try to get a full grasp on it all.

* i am sorry for not updating as much as i liked, but i have a busted shoulder that has kept me away from my pc. I will try to update here more often.

I try to stay on top of things on my facebook so feel free to join me. Even tough i write there in Portuguese there is no problem in answering whatever questions you may have.

Titan and party didnt officially leave yet, but they probably will soon, as they seem to be closing down shop. I would say half a year at least, October is the month the first license is issued, not the site being relaunched so...

Hello pals.

Im a playe from a country where taxes on poker are pretty high. However, only money that has been withdrawal is concerned.
I did won a big mtt a few months ago and still has not cashout for obvious reasons. I'm not a pro and i have many activities beside of poker.

I was thinking about moving in a country more convenient about taxes and if possible, great to live.
Portugal appears to be a pretty good choice for me since it has all i need, i believe.

So i just wanted to ask you , is it true clean and clear that poker player are/will be taxed at 0%? I'm not even sure to keep playing in the next
months/years so i basically dont really care about if we can play from portugal and on which site, im just looking for the confirmation that portugal is a
poker tax free country on the players side.

If any of you can make this a bit clearer, or simply give me links to explore, it would be awesome. Yeah i dont understand the full law that i found here : https://dre.pt/application/file/67096527

Cheers!

Government said that they'd start issuing licenses in October, so I'm guessing that websites won't be able to start immediately as there are legal procedures and software compliance to be verified. So I'd say no earlier than November or December, in best case scenario.

They also said that they were optimistic that this would be done before the end of the year. So, the end of year is their reference date.

Just to clarify: The regulation is valid, but no poker site can have a license yet?

In other words, the government say you are not allowed to play at any site, otherwise you breach the law?

Now that Portugal is a regulated market and ps.pt opened do portuguese players know a bit more about poker winnings taxation ?
Should poker pros pay taxes on their winnings ?

Other question : do anyone know if it is difficult for a foreigner to move to Portugal and open a bank account, get the fiscal code ?

Players don't pay taxes on their winnings. About the bank account i think you can if you have residence here.
