Under this model, it makes more sense to be an agent than a player, if you get a 5% uncapped commission of each winning player, each session. Only I imagine that job isn't readily available.

Since there is no money being actually gambled with, just digital "gems or coins" there is risk involved to the winners, who previously decided on a real world value for those items. They need to be paid manually, after the game ends. So it's a service, really, that the agent provides. Collection services.

To make a profit off of being able to collect money owed from poker games in an effective manner, across an entire country, means this is not a ponzi scheme. It's organized crime. The entire app is a front to juice that 5% uncapped guaranteed commission. At least from the best games.

I'm sure not every 'agent' is part of the triad or whatever it's called over there. Plenty of NL20-NL200 games are probably just friendly games. But I'm certain all the high stakes action is being handled by the same people, who must already have a reputation as being able to collect debts.

ok, i guess i can shed some light on this.

i actually just made another thread yesterday talking about how to approach one of these games. i play in one of the smaller games on there, a 10/20 with a 10 ante. and I can tell you that it plays huge. i can only imagine how big a 200/400 game is.

but the value of the game is not in playing (despite how soft it is) but in becoming an agent. besides the 5% commission for each winning session, the amount made by the hosts through insurance is just simply insane.

the app itself seems legit although coolers and beats tend to happen at a higher frequency but perhaps that is due to the loose nature of the game or the higher volume. if you can stomach boats over boats just about every other orbit then this is the game for you.

every club i have played in is legit. but how can they not be? they are simply printing money from all the commission and insurance....you can request for payout after every session although chinese payment processors are a pain in the ass. just don't be the last person they owe money to when the games die out....

and yes the games are soft, beyond soft. ppl limping from all over the place, with no regards to position or even strength of hands. aces are either 3bet shoved or limped preflop....flushes and draws are always chased to the end..things where you can just exploit the **** out of.....just about every grinder's wet dream. everything you have heard of the macau fish is true...just on a smaller scale (altho I have heard of people playing in the millions, i have yet to witness them)

regarding some of the concerns...

never ever leave money there..always cash out after every session. if the agents can't do that for you, leave and find another club

don't compare this to locke poker or other euro sites...this is basically run by a single college kid in his basement with zero overhead....might you get scammed? possible but unlikely as the hosts can simply bleed you to death....

collusions happen and there is nothing you can do to stop it....3-4 friends on a single table is beyond common....there is this gps/ip thing where you can turn on to prevent duplicates on a single table but nothing you can do over if they simply decide to conference over Skype or something...

edit: funny....just as i was typing this...some idiot is down close to 100k rmb this past session in the last 3 hours in a 10/20 10 ante game...

if this was legit the agent would show himself ! there is no agent showing who he really his because he knows he has to be anonym to scam people and disapear

lol there is no single agent....each club is individually run....the value is not in the agent but in the chinese whales....if you can find chinese whales to play in your game then you too can become an agent....maybe agent is simply an english translator in this sense...when i say agent, i meant host of the club...

as the article states....there are hundreds if not thousands of clubs....each one has its own agent/host...there will be scammers but most are 'legit' in the sense you will get paid if you win...whether you can win against all the collusion/******ed card run outs is another question...

even if the agente pays the money it is almost impossible to make profit in long run if you have to pay 5% uncapped evry wining session...

I've always been curious about poker in China and if it means going around the government by playing with "play money" and then settling up behind in the backgrounds; that definitely concerns me a lot! what if the chinese government crack it and find out about all of this. all the cash would be frozen up. who's fault would it be then?

the site was bought recently (last year-ish?) ... maybe the new owners have new connections

anyway, there's a positive aspect of this story. We should totally replace the old and kind of washed-out phrase "untracked euro sites" with the new and exciting "untracked renminbi clubs" phrase

so it's basically a 5% uncapped-rake structure to the players, and an operation to grow poker through liaisons. unless it is unsustainable, it seems fine to me.
