One thing you might consider doing is charging people for archived material. Since it's costing you to house that data in the long term, why not charge people for that? This way people get a taste of the site with your free initial content, and then are enticed to look at archive material in the subscription umbrella where they'll be able to really benefit.

It's sort of like dealing drugs. The first hit is free. The rest will cost you.
I agree with this to a certain extent, however a low unique count can be overcome with effective targeting. In my opinion PR should continue to focus on building a Base of registered users. The forums are good start to this process. A large # of unique users is relatively meaningless to Advertisers if they aren't coming back.

I dont know if PokerRoad is dead but they are dead quiet. The only thing that runs on a regular basis is Two Jacks.

Plus the 2p2 Pokercast is on hiatus for a week so nothing to listen to.

Maybe someone has some suggestions of other good podcasts (poker related or not)?

Re: pokerroad will die

First of all let me say the majority of posts here enjoy Poker Road. As with anything in life there is always roomm for improvement.

PRR is listening to it's fans and are diligently trying to give Poker fans the best possible information and entertainment out there for FREE.

I am an amateur Poker Player as many of you are. I have a real job and play Poker because it is a challenge for me that I need.

I have met some great people because of the Forums at Poker Road and Joe Scott and gavin have treated there fans with respect and always take the time for us.

Think of the amount of work that goes into this site. These guys did not need to put together a Poker website, but they did and you want to know why.

Because they love the game as we all do! They could just be playing the game and getting better and better, yet they take time out of their schedules to bring the fans of Poker ....POKER...

I try and support them as much as possible. They are on my website as a sponsor .fallenheroesLA.org and I also write some blogs about my personal poker playing and I try and give them support as often as I can because without their diligence in trying to bring us Poker content I would be stuck watching Sponge Bob and The Life of Zack and Cody every night in my house!

PRR is a godsend!

Re: pokerroad will die

pokercast from 1/21 says big poker sundays gone to be replaced by poker beat with huff on thursdays and they mention making other changes like maybe only going to half the wpt stops and instead having a weekly or bi weekly studio show from la. Whatever happens i enjoy PR and hope they get back on the rails, losing bart was a big blow and BPS just wasnt the same despite shaniac's attempts.

Tuesdays with ivey is a great new seg and once they get shows back in the swing again it will be good

Sebok should have started an adult site instead.

Re: pokerroad will die

A two or three-person booth broadcasting over a mid-stakes live cash game is very popular with the fans. They would love to see something like that.

It's been tried before, but somehow they screwed it up.

Barry takes donations from poker players all the time. But you have to do it in Bobby's Room or on Pokerstars.

Re: pokerroad will die

The expenses of pokerroad (traveling, workers, time seem like they would always outweigh the potential income regardless of how big pokerroad could be)...Making it profitable seems dumb. Making it entertaining and limitiing expenses to the point where you could possibly break even is very possible.

Barry talking on the phone w/ Ivey. Following Ivey's life outside the poker table. Those 2 things are probably the biggest draws on the site and cost almost no money. They should be doing things similar to that with other players...Even guys who aren't neccessarily the best players in the world.
