pokerroad will die
my prediction: pokerroad will die in 2009.
reason:
no more "good" content.
-pokerroad radio got annoying. it's loud and dumb, bad interviews, nobody cares about tourney updates
-big poker sundays is dead without bob. shaniac's only contribution is "i have no information on this topic" and "i don't know". not enough for a show that is about opinions.
-cash plays: cancelled.
-all strategy: good idea, good team. but: tournaments are sooo 2005. and people who want to learn poker read 2p2 anyways or subscribe to a training site. (the only thing profitable, see below)
-2 jacks: too boring.
-pro-blogs are everywhere on the net
-life of ivey: contentless. the faszination of the early days is gone
-tipps from the bear: dead.
therefore: the only group their program appeals to are 14 year olds.
therefore: there is no way this page will make a reasonable amount of money. adds and subscriptions to sites will not make a lot since people listening are already registered for most pokersites. (all strategy is getting a lot of money from pokervt but thats likely to be not enough to cover all other shows)
their latest attempt is to promote a new forum. the red-pro-forum is nice but no way to make profit.
therefore: barry will get tired of shoving money into a hole in June 2009. (June bc then Barry will reevaluate his financial situation before the series. maybe they will cover the series one more time before the shut the doors)
this prediction is based on the assumption that PR is run to make profit, not for poker-promotion purposes (i.e. to get more players to the game. thats too much of an external effect for the people involved).
if nobody replies then i will simply bump this thread in july 09 to proof how smart i am.

Re: pokerroad will die
non-mainstream media must be an extremely difficult cross to bear.
but i became tired of listening to Amanda interview Gavin, and Joe interview Erik, and Amanda interview Erik and Joe, and Gavin interview Joe, and Amanda interview Joe, etcetera, etcetera. i like them all and is a good effort on a small budget. for me its too much cheap thrills, though the site is not aimed at me. and they are too politically correct for my taste even though they think they are not.
the only person i liked was Bart Hansen and after a while would not even skim the oh so overly cluttered front page to see what else they had on offer. a pity he is going to deuces cracked as their website looks like a fruit salad too. and the life of Ivey was just immature and silly. i won't be going back unless they improve. i hope they do and that is the only reason i am making this post.

Re: pokerroad will die
i havent been on there for a while, but i every few weeks i will go there and listen a bunch of shows i have missed when i have the time.
didn't know that cash plays will not be there anymore till now, and this really sucks. it definitly was the best thing they had, regarding poker and not pokergossip and stuff.

Re: pokerroad will die
Most poker players liked the show with bart. but there is no way this kind of content can be profitable market.
they try it with all strategy now. background is: daniel wants his pokervt promoted. he has to place a product in an already crowded market. once he has reached a certain critical mass (or not) he is done with promotion over radio and has to find a way to keep his customers. he therefore has to work together with pokerstars or sth else. a pokermedia-site is not the right playe to keep customers.
beside of this special case there is not much you can sell to an established poker player (the target audience for a show like cash plays).
but there is hope for pokerroad. full tilt doesn't have a good media segment. they would be able to pay for some regular coverage (more than bluff magazine or wsop does, if they pay at all).

Re: pokerroad will die
Put it like this, besides pokertube and 2+2. Are there really any free sites out there with better content? Not saying it's great or anything, but how picky can one really be?

Re: pokerroad will die
Cash Plays really cancelled? WTF? The best show and the only one that I listened to regularly. OP might be onto the truth here...

Bart is going to do the Deuces Cracked podcast If I remember correctly.
However i disagree with you OP, I am more than 2x 14 and go to Pokerroad everyday.

Re: pokerroad will die
I listen to a lot of the shows too, but you are prolly right, i cant see a long term future for pokerroad, which is a shame. If they could get the shows played in various cardrooms, then there would be a greater potential for advertising revenue IMO. I'd say 95% of the poker players at my local cardroom havent even heard of pokerroad, and it prolly similar elsewhere.
Also, i am sorry that Cash Plays is finishing. Was a great show with lots of useful info. And I will miss Bart saying eet instead of eight. 'and the flop came eet eet six, with 2 diamonds'.

Re: pokerroad will die
The only shows I like on there are The Two Jacks In The Hole and Pokerroad Radio. I just can't stand listening to pokerstrategic radio shows, I find it boring.

Re: pokerroad will die
At the risk of sounding like I'm plugging here, I feel I have to step in. Cash Plays isn't completely dead... Bart is moving to Deuces Cracked to do a very similar show.

Re: pokerroad will die
IMO, Pokeroad should survey their listeners and produce a strategy show aimed at the levels of the cash games most of them play. SSNL or uNL I would assume but I could be wrong.
Similiar format to All Strategy but with pros who play in the game they'd be analzying. Mix in an entertaining host like Huff and it should work.

Re: pokerroad will die
i don't think they should survey the listeners. people rarely know what they want. even less they are capable to know if things work out as wanted.
example: shaniac on BPS. it was people's voice that demanded him to suceed bob. now you can read a lot of posts at the pr-forums telling how bad the show got. obviously shaniac is a great guy. but he is not made for a radio format like that where you sometimes have to barf out your opinion NVG-style (remember bob and baby-powder).
a strategy show would fit nicely into the schedule of a pokersite to teach the new players. pokerstars does that with intellipoker in germany. seperated from a poker- or training-site a strategy show is not marketable longterm.
