People seem to be under the impression that streaming live poker is a massive undertaking and extremely expensive. Maybe it is if you build elaborate sets and hire a bunch of talent like PokerCentral did, but in years past the WSOP streams were shot on
webcams attached to tripods and had one paid announcer at a desk. Besides Tuchman's salary, the biggest cost was probably the RFID table.
Bellagio, Kings Casino, and others have gotten into live streaming. Nothing fancy, just cash games on standard RFID setups with a few cheap cameras. They offer this for free and did not break the bank to do so.
You don't even need to have proprietary streaming software. GPL and other live productions figured this out and just broadcasted on Twitch.
WSOP didn't sell streaming rights because it was an expensive burden. They did it because Cary Katz was willing to light lots of money on fire. When (not if) PokerCentral circles the drain, it will not be difficult or expensive to replace it with a leaner production. You just need a few competent people overseeing it.
