Everyone loves acting like OP is so stupid for doing this. What doesn't get reported in these threads is that 99.9% of the time, everything goes smoothly. It's good these threads are made, so it's harder for the scumbags to keep stealing. Sorry WCGRider, thanks for reporting.

Most of the confusion seems to stem from a misunderstanding that OP was loaning money to Brad.

This wasn't a loan, it was a transfer and there's a HUGE difference. I spend a decent amount of time browsing NVG and think I'm farily up to date on who's a scamming piece of **** but I honestly didn't have Brad in the Chino category at all (edit: and still am really not sure i should).

Always thought he looked like a nice guy and probably appears that way in "real life".
As a matter of fact, people like (as I just did, actually...) to use extreme statements to define others because nuance is much harder to deal with than extremes, but reality is much more complex than that.

This doens't necessarily mean that Brad is a complete dirtbag. He's probably just a degenerate for whom it's really a disease and who's initially a nice guy but just got numb to the whole borrowing money deal and probably really intended to pay it back.

And I think this is where the lesson really is. No matter how many times I get scammed on craigslist or wherever else, my first instinct is still to want to believe in people, maybe because they look nice or trustworthy or because they have a reputation that they "wouldn't risk for a few k", but I've come to realize that this kind of projecting is extremely dangerous because everyone has a different set of values or lack thereof and no one, and I mean no one, preceives anything exactly the way you do, and I make sure to tell myself this over and over now when I'm in a similar situation.

Just because you feel that you can identify with someone for whatever reason (some values, belonging to the same community, etc...) doesn't mean that he or she will share the rest of your personality traits and values.

i don't think people fully understand how much of a win it is to xfer 30k cake/lock/merge for 30k cash. i think a lot of people would have turbo bumhunted that deal, and booth would have been a sucker (had he xfered) w/o vig

Yep, totally, please air dirty laundry even though I paid you back. You have literally no reason to post or speak about me. Unless you just want to be an ass then by all means.

Not all are bad apples but a lot of the guys kicking around that once had 7 figure bankrolls are desperate and will just roll on the drop of a dime.

See Lindgren, Flack, Gavin Smith etc...

Always make him give you the cash first. ALWAYS or you are putting yourself in a terrible spot.

You have 0 to gain by shipping first and everything to lose
So you're saying that if someone has a past of doing something that you shouldn't trust what they do in the future. Got it, thanks!

A sad fact, but very true.

It's not true at all, what's true is that some people you consider your friends aren't actually your friends, in which case you're not very perceptive, or that if they are you friends and still scam you, given how we tend to associate with people who have similar values it would be a pretty good indication that you have very poor values yourself.

I can count 3 very close friends in my life and have no doubt that they'd never ever scammed me for any amount of money and neither would I, but it comes down to education and moral values.

They wouldn't do it because they're incapable of doing it. Their values make it such that they literally wouldn't be able to sleep with this on their conscience and that's the best guarantee you'll ever have.

If I walk out of a store with extra change, even something significant (in the context of getting it for nothing) like 50 or 100$, I wouldn't be able to walk away with that money, it'd literally be impossible, I'd physically be stopped in the street and have to walk back to the store.

Imo, if someone's values allows him or her to be ok with owing someone else money or doing something unethical, I'd never associate with that person, let alone be friends with him/her.

If you feel that you can't even trust the people you call friends, you should question either whether they're actually your friends, or your own values if you feel they are indeed your friends.

the poker community is full of scumbags...they exist at the micro level and all the way up to the high stakes and everywhere in between. many poker players are like drug addicts - they will do ANYTHING to get money to get back in action...just like a heroine addict stealing from his/her mother to get a fix.

Ive met him once and it was quite a long time ago. It was actualy in Whitehorse and one of my friends knew him pretty well. We all met up at a bar and got smashed. He was a pretty fun guy to drink with and pretty funny dude. The hilarious part of it all was he bought drinks for all of us all night long and the waitress said at the beginning of the night "you guys want me to start a tab"? and Brad said sure put a tab under him. We drank a lot and we were all pretty hammered. He had to go take a piss and I havent seen him since and the waitress gave us a bill at the end of the night because he took off or whatever. It was around $700. I said to them just throw it on brads tab or whatever because he told you to at the beginning of the night. She said she had no idea who the guy was and never saw hime before. So there was no tab to put it on really. I dont know if the guy did it on purpose over a measily $700 but he's still a douche for that

If anyone really knows him, he loves to talk about the vag. I remember him keep saying (because there are a lot of natives up there) you want that indian vag (in different words most times) dont ya buddy. He also pointed out a really ugly chick that he hit, was pretty funny night aside from him taking off

Had no idea Brad was like this. I had read sometime last year during the wsop something cardplayer wrote about him. I think they were making him out to be one of the good guys in poker that got scammed during the whole UB superuser scandal. At the time he was making some sort of run in the main event
