And this has nothing to do with a game being good or bad. There are many good games where fish don't break any ethical and moral norms and in fact are not obnoxious at all. And there are many bad games full of players behaving in a less than cordial fashion.
If you think the casual player watching this likes poker more or is encouraged to play more after seeing an environment this toxic - you're mistaken. If you think allowing this kind of behavior is good for poker - again you're mistaken.
It's not only unethical and immoral. It also happens to be bad for poker. Usually unethical things have an interesting way of being bad for business - especially in the long run.
There is no ethical or moral code that gamblers follow. There never will be. You want the police to get involved.. because some douchebag (that the game revolved around) was insulting and abrasive? The only thing that matters to gamblers in the gambling world is MONEY. There is no doubt in my mind that if HTK wasn't broke, and was proven to worth millions... none of this would have happened... all the pros including polk and deeb would keep their fkn mouths shut... but since theres no money left they get to say what they think.
Again, low stakes games are run very differently than higher stakes with smaller player pools. Some of the biggest fish at higher stakes are ****ing scumbags/ the nastiest people you could run into... it's always been that way... and will probably always remain... because it's their ****ing party man. They are donating, they get to make the rules. Pros know that.
I actually think it's disingenuous to portray poker, especially higher stakes in a very good light, with fake smiles, and phony small talk and the illusion that everyone is honest and has millions of dollars to gamble with etc. That episode, for all its cringworthy moments,, was probably the most accurate representation of a bigger game when the lights and cameras are off.
If you're looking for tuxedos, and class, and pompous *******s then just go watch the mainstream romanticized version of poker ala casino royal.
