So we appear to have been pushed down to number 17 on the notice paper for the House of Representatives.

If we do not come up this week then we will have a couple of months up our sleeves!

Joey, is there any lobbying we can do to help delay the implementation of the IGA amendment until after the poker enquiry?

Yeah, I was going to start some stuff next week once we know for sure that this didn't occur this week.

Keep an eye out for that. Just to clarify though this is unlikely to cause any major changes in government thinking. However, it is a benefit of keeping us at front of mind.

Does this change in legislation mean no online sites at all? Any exemptions?

If so is it worth withdrawing my BR now? Cheers

Thanks for some clarity. I tried looking back through this thread but can I ask why ACR is allowed and not other sites? I guess I will start playing ACR then. Cheers mate.

ACR isn't 'allowed' they just don't give a *** and will continue offering us services just like they do in the US.

And now the article copy and pasted

TRADITIONAL oncourse bookies fear they will face ruin under “wowser” laws banning the age-old practice of “on-the-nod” betting.

The Herald Sun can reveal new federal interactive gambling reforms will also extend to outlawing established oncourse bookies from taking bets on credit from punters over the phone.

The Victorian Bookmakers Association says the majority of the state’s 180 oncourse bookies — who turnover $500 million a year — would be forced out of business.

John Clancy, the association’s chief executive, said oncourse bookies remained a vital part of the industry despite most betting now takes place through corporate bookmakers or with the TAB.

“This would kill oncourse bookmakers and could you imagine the Spring Racing Carnival without being able to have a punt on the rails?” Mr Clancy said. “These laws do nothing to address the problems but have just caused more confusion.

“They will favour the big corporates and kill small businesses across the state.”

The Senate passed amendments to online gambling laws last week that put restrictions on online sports betting and effectively shut down real-money online poker.

An amendment to the bill from anti-gambling crusader Nick Xenophon banning bookies from offering a line of credit — either online or on the phone — also passed with the support of Labor.

Up to 80 per cent of oncourse bookies’ business is now done on credit and over the phone often with professional punters and racing diehards.

Mr Clancy said oncourse bookies had offered “on the nod” betting or “deferred settlement arrangements” to reliable and regular punters for a century — often with the account being settled at the end of the day.

Victorian Liberal MP Dan Tehan said he hoped Labor leader Bill Shorten would withdraw its support for the “wowser approach”.

“If you like a punt, a beer or a smoke you should be very careful because it appears Bill Shorten is coming after you,” Mr Tehan said.

“This is a disgrace, it will put bookmakers out of business and kill events like with Spring Racing Carnival which is iconic to Victoria.”

Labor MP Julie Collins said tonight if there were unintended consequences from this change, the Government needed to find a solution and Labor would work with it.

“All betting agencies should be on a level playing field and on-course bookies should not be disadvantaged,” Ms Collins said.

Senator Xenophon told the Herald Sun that corporate bookmakers were his target and not on-course bookies.

“I’m willing to work with the government to make sure they are not adversely affected by the reforms,” he said.
