Congratz James Packer.

More money coming your way, Crownbet, Crown Casino....ffs.

It's like the lockout laws, channel everyone into Star casino. They are barricading us like sheep into brick and mortar casinos for slaughter.

I sincerely doubt Senator Leyonhjelm has given any though to the specifics or practicalities - he's probably just heard that you can use a VPN to watch geoblocked video clips on YouTube and assumes people will be able to do the same here.

Ofcourse he gave it no thought that's why he mentioned it and didn't help his argument at all.

But just for the sake of discussion, I assume that the main problem here will be that you won't be allowed to own a PokerStars (/~any poker site) account as an Australian. So you would still have to "move" to New Zealand, open a bank account there, get a residential address where you receive a utility bill etc. Theoretically you could do do all this in a month just in an airbnb, and then you could go back to Aus and VPN from there hoping not to get caught. But if you do get caught you'll lose your playing privileges forever (or at least for a long time) and likely also the funds on your account. So unless you're one of the biggest winners this just really doesn't seem like worth the risk. But having that said, there are 100s of Americans VPNing from the States right now on PokerStars and they've been doing this every day for years. I went to the Isle Of Man to discuss widespread VPNing a few years ago at the Stars HQ and it was evident they had no means of tackling the issue. I believe this is still very much the situation today.

Again, I really don't suggest you do this and I think it's a really bad idea. It's also worth noting that the more you win, the bigger the risk of getting caught eventually is. People get bitter and might simply out you if you win the millball or something (this happened with a very well known American reg, he got snitched on by his friends). So yeah, I would really just focus on trying to change the law, surely there's some way to change things over time and luckily you already have JoeyDel who'll be the right man to lead the cause.

Thanks for explaining Chuck!

In my case I only moved to Australia 5 years ago and where I'm from it's still legal to play. I have my best mate still back there who I have staked and coached every now and then. If I just start using his account and do all deposit/withdrawals through his bank accounts then that should work too, right?

So devastated

Would be remiss though not to thank Joey for the awesome fight he put up & also to Swoop for rally the troops. Thanks guys, at least someone was fighting for us recs.

Another freedom taken away by an oppressive, over bearing Nanny State Government who claim to only have pour best interests at heart.
I had a glance of the hansard report for the senate yesterday and noted the following below from the greens. Such a joke.

Senator RHIANNON (New South Wales) (20:53): I move Greens amendment on sheet 8056 standing in my name:

At the end of the motion, add:
", but the Senate notes this Bill is likely to lead to an expansion of the Australian gambling market through in-play betting in TABs, clubs and licenced premises and questions the rationale for such an approach in light of Labor and Liberal parties having received $10,460,819 in political donations from gambling interests over the past ten years.".

I don't think this is really a good subject to discuss ITT (or in any thread really, as it's against every site's TOS). But yeah, that kind of setup would have some chance of working in my opinion, although I would still STRONGLY advise against it. But yeah, probably better to discuss that elsewhere and focus on the efforts to legalize online poker in Australia in this thread.

/sorry for derail

He did withdraw and correct himself though. Honestly very surprised Xenophon was reasonable there considering his stance

I just caught the end of the vote on the stream. So that was 46-6 against Senator Leyonhjelm's proposed amendment?

Yeah. It's such a shame that so many votes just default to no due to lack of understanding of the game and just assuming that poker is no different to other forms of gambling.

Yup, from what I could see Leyonhjelm, Hinch and One Nation supported it
