Let me know how it goes. Will be doing the same if Timtams correct. What bitcoin site did you use and what would everyone reccomend?

is there any protests being held before or on the day of the vote? everyone's spread out across the country probably makes it a bit hard.

Except there's literally no evidence at all Xenophon had anything to do with the amendment other than he's anti-gambling. One Nation has a bigger part but the Libs aren't bending the knee to them (yet anyway).

It's entirely possible this was reintroduced to appease Xenophon in some way to get him more onside but you're acting like he's pulling the strings. He's already voted against the government multiple times, literally two days before the amendment was read their party voted against the plebiscite which was one of Turnbull's biggest election promises

I've been told by a couple of people that it will. But would just like to confirm and settle my anxiety. I understand ACR offer games to USA where it's illegal but I'm wondering if this Australian amendment might be somehow different or the Aus government will do something that USA isn't doing.

We'll be able to play on ACR.

Governments ****ing useless, they won't implement anything to specifically stop us playing poker (even if they wanted to they'd cock it up somehow), it'll be the poker sites themselves that IP ban us, in which case ACR doesn't seem to care about trivial things like providing poker to countries where it's 'illegal' so you'll be fine if you wish to play there.

Hey fellas, have fired off those couple of tweets and emailed my local parliament member.

Just quickly looking for some simple answers:

What date is this happening?

If this bill passes, does it mean that poker is banned 100% for sure in Australia? Or could they still be loose with the enforcement or some other way that it remains status quo?

Assuming we are banned, will we have immediate access to our funds on all poker sites? Or should I cash out of the less trustworthy sites (or all of them) for caution?

Cheers

One thing to remember is to use up any rewards you have (e.g. StarsCoins). I doubt you'll be able to recover those. I had a fair bit of value there.

I've used CoinJar for years. Just use POLi payments once your account is verified. I also have a debit card from them that can make cash withdrawals easy.

I have also used CoinTree without problems, although not in the last 12 months.

how much of an impact are these tweets having? like they can just ignore them after awhile, bit harder to ignore a mob screaming through your window all day long. the most common way to get things to go your way is to grease the palms of the monkeys in positions of power.

Pokers just doomed man. Lose money trying to start up a business and people will just tell you bad luck and pat you on the back. Lose money playing poker and they call you a ******. Even though playing poker is basically entrepreneurship. The government should also ban investing, and stock trading while they are at it.

There are hundreds and hundreds of bills voted on each year so what he has turned down so far will be a drop in the ocean to the bills that he and his other Senators will support, given in part due to these more stringent anti-gambling measures.

The tweets are not the whole strategy. They are just a part of the strategy. I will update you guys later as I am not free at the moment and we have had a very big day. But please keep the tweets coming in as they are a major help to our campaign.

Thanks.

+1 to this question, I think I read something about them voting about it around the 23rd of February (forgot exact date but 2x Feb anyway) but not sure if I understood it correctly

Do you know much about how quickly it would come to into effect?

I know some bills are retroactive (rare - may result in taxes, etc being back-paid), some are immediate (effective as of being passed), some come to pass at a future date and some are 'grand-fathered in) - immediate for new comers, but people already in the game have a certain amount of time to adjust to the new laws.

Anyway - anyone know whether it's likely to come into immediate effect?

Plus anyway - if they say it's in effect as of the new Financial Year (Jul 2017) - then sites like Stars may just pull-out of the market immediately regardless...

I guess no one is really going to know the answers to all these questions..

I'm so bummed out about this.

I recently got made redundant, and falling back on old poker skills (I used to play a lot as a student) - I've been able to bring in $1k/week or so by playing donkaments. It's really helped my wife and I out. Removing this bit of income is really going to hurt until I find new employment.

I'm not an Aussie and my understanding of your politics is based on The Chaser's War On Everything so I don't really know anything, that's why I asked because I assume someone ITT knows.

I just picked up that someone said earlier ITT that your parliament will sit down (or whatever your political terminology here is) on the 2xth February to decide on whether the bill passes or not. I could be wrong about that one as well and asked someone to clarify but I'm pretty sure I got that part right. Then how long it takes for it to come into effect - no idea. I'm going to guess that it'll be really quick (possibly not officially but in the sense that all companies will just snap pull out). Put the o/u line two weeks from the bill passing and I'd bet on the under for Stars, Party etc to pull out. But that's just me.

If passed, royal assent is usually 5-7 working days.
(There are some aspects of this bill which may push it out a little longer). After that it's law.
From what we've heard it's due to be submitted this parliamentary sitting.
Now is the time to be as vocal and support Joey as much as we can.

Actually on that note, Joey how are you going with finances? How much have you spent and how much have you received? It's time for all of us to dig a little more. You should not be paying for any of this given your enourmous time commitment to the cause.

There is some confusion here about the legislation that is actually being voted on. I will explain this when I am at a computer. I am currently typing on my phone and about to catch a flight home.

As pies said it will be assented (signed by the GG and sent into law shortly after the vote is carried). We should work on the assumption that sites will pull out immediately oncr the vote is finalised.

I had some very positive meetings yesterday. One with Minister Tudge's office (over the phone) and another with Senator Xenophon.

Our campaign to date has been successful in slowing the process down. The Bill will be brought to the house this week but there will be time for MPs to debate the Bill.

Now is the critical time. Contact your MP and Senators. Use our tweets (facebook.com/AustralianOnlinePokerAlliance) our contact form (now at australianonlinepokeralliance.com.au) or pick up the phone and make your voice heard.

Re finances. I have received about $1100 in donations and have spent approx $1500 not including my time. I am going down to Canberra week after next for meetings with Senators and MPs which will obviously have additional costs. We also should be ramping up our advertising spend over the next month.

The most powerful thing you can do though is be engaged and make some noise. If you want to talk to your MP and don't know what to say contact me and let me know who your MP is and we will work on a strategy together.

Thanks

JoeyDel

May i ask, say in the event that they do pass the bill. What is the consequence of playing poker online in Australia? Will they bother to crackdown on players still gambling/playing poker online? Also, wouldnt it be tough to withdraw funds to ur bank account if u continue playing on sites (ACR etc) that doesnt care abt the bill?

I highly doubt they will crackdown on the people playing as that would be a huge waste of resources and they know that. And I don't know the technicalities of the bill but I don't think it makes it illegal to play.

Regarding withdrawals, I talked to the bloke over at professionalrakeback.com and he said, "They haven't withheld funds from any other market that they pulled out of, which is only a few, but the precedent exists. I think the worst case scenario is that they'd force bitcoin withdrawals instead of whatever your preferred method was (but it should be bitcoin in this environment anyway IMO)".
