For the professional poker player point, I'm not sure whether it's a net positive - particularly if the player hasn't paid income tax. I remember the comments in the tabloids a few months when there was a feature article re: the impact of the new IGA to poker pros ie "oh no, the tax bludger will need to get a proper job and pay tax".
