Re: Playing poker professionally is a $hitty life
If u think it's a crappy life, why do it? Isn't the main selling point of being a poker pro that it is better than doing some other crappy job for equal or even more money?

Re: Playing poker professionally is a $hitty life
I woke up on my Temperpedic Mattress today, in my house, at 6pm. I proceeded to have breakfast consisting of bison meatballs, chicken mole poblano, rice, and coffee & ancho rubbed steak which was cooked by my personal chef yesterday while I was sleeping. I watched "Before the Jersey Shore" or something on MTV while eating on a comfortable couch in front of a 55" TV.
Man, this sucks. I would much rather have gotten up at 7am to get ready to begin my commute. It would be really cool to have a boss who doesn't appreciate me. Why would I want to stay home when I could do the 9-5 routine of paperwork and promoting synergy?

If you link your quality of life and well-being to your job/career, it will be ****ty no matter what you choose to do for a living.

This
If you think being a professional poker player isn't great, you're either a) doing it wrong, b) not very good at it, or c) don't have friends who work 70 hours a week for £20k (~$33k or something right now) with no career advancement prospects.

I'm on my second stint on playing full time. After 2 years of grinding 60 hours a week I got burnt out and got a job. After 2 years of working I am back to poker again.

Your job/career is what you spend the majority of your waking hours on. It's kind of hard to be happy while hating what you do for half your time.

Re: Playing poker professionally is a $hitty life
it really does suck ballz, i've been doing it for 6months as my only source of income, and i already hate it,i go to college too, so poker will also be used as a sidekick when i get a real job. i dun't think i ever see myself turning fully pro, although i have thought about it. in conclusion, unless you making +150k/yr the swings and the toll it puts on u mentally really isn't worth it.
