Phil Ivey - Ram Vaswani golf controversy eventually resolved? Phil Ivey - Ram Vaswani golf controversy eventually resolved?

Anybody remember the Phil Ivey / Ram Vasani golf bet controversy?

Looks like that may have been resolved. Not sure if this is old news, or not, but I don't remember seeing anything about a resolution. Of course, my search skills on 2+2 pretty much suck.

From Jay Greenspan at the aussie millions:

Last year in Australia, for example, rumor spread through the crowd that a massive amount of money had changed hands one day on the course—roughly half a million if my memory is correct. One player, call him Pro A (and no, I’m not going to name names), offered a bet that seemed absurdly generous given his abilities. Another player, Player B, happily took the bet.

As it turned out, Player A had be practicing—a lot. He had vastly improved his game since the last time Player B saw him play. Player B lost big. But he felt he’d been suckered and balked at paying the massive sum. The two parties sought out a neutral third party who determined that the bet was fair. Player B had simply made a poor and ignorant bet. I’ve heard that Player B eventually paid the full amount.

Super-lame not to name the players, as if it were a massive secret the author felt compelled to withhold.

I'm sure he's more concerned about being sued for libel than not being lame. And i believe Barry confirmed on here a few months ago that the situation was resolved.

Yeah, i vaguely remember just after the WSOP it was resolved (after Ram got a bracelet or deep finish or something, too lazy to fact check).

My interpretation of what was said was Ram paid off a percentage of the loss but not the full amount.

He was person C who was involved in the golf round earlier in the day but left and bought himself out after finding out Ivey scammed them by misrepresenting his handicap.

Phil played against 2 people, not just Ram.

the whole point about golf gambling is misrepresenting your handicap. ivey evidently did a better job than vaswani.

i don't think that's the actual point of golf gambling

Yes, he paid.

They decided on a three-man arbitration panel (including Barry G and I believe Chip) and it was decided that Ram owed Phil the money.

There was also a funny episode of Poker After Dark where Benyamine was talking about gambling on golf (which he was just starting to do) and Phil and Barry were joking back and forth about how if David thinks he lost unfairly he can just decide not to pay.

Mark Goodwin was player C, he finished 3rd to ivey in the Monte Carlo tournament on FSN a few years ago.
