Ok....so the lady just apoligized to me like 100 times, and said she can only credit me $2300 right now, and will credit the rest in a few hours. I just checked, and its in there. This whole thing is so strange.

btw the hand history number is 1162170993. I just watched the hand on table ratings replayer, and in the river, it shows my cards, does not flip his cards over....then says winner above his name and ships him the pot.

During the game i was so confused as to what happened. Im not sure exactly at point point it happened (before, during, or after the hand) but i had a pop up come up saying that i missed three blinds in a row (we are playing heads up wtf!?!?) it rebought me back into the table with some odd amount.

I was playing another heads up game at the same time, so wasnt paying complete attention. You can see in the chat, I kept asking phil how much he was in for, and i knew it was wrong. I asked him who won that hand, and he said i did....yet i didnt have the chips.

So ****ing weird.

Ultimate Bet has acknowledged the incorrect outcome, reimbursed Phil's opponent, and claims they are investigating the bug with the highest priority.

Additional facts that may or may not be important:

- PH has been on an epic upswing at limit hold-em. According to PH, he was on a 10-day winning streak, wth a $7M profit to show for it, when this hand happened
- Most knowledgable pros think PH isn't really very good at limit hold-em
- There have been multiple instances of UB/AP/Cereus software being rigged in the past
- PH has a very close relationship with UB (shill/sponsored/part-owner)
- As far as anyone can tell, this is the first time this bug has occurred
- During the hand in question, PH played T2s in a manner that some find highly questionable/donkish/suspicious
- PH at first ignored the incorrect outcome of the hand, then tried to brush it off

Speculation on the cause of the error has focused on six main possibilities:

1.) Phil was trying to cheat on the hand and something went wrong

2.) Phil has a special interface that allows him to cheat, and even though he was not cheating on this hand, the interface led to this bug

3.) Phil has a special interface for some reason other than cheating, and it led to this bug

4.) The bug could have happened to anyone, and just randomly happened to Phil, at a moment (because of the additional factors listed above) that makes him look really shady

5.) A disgruntled employee is behind the whole thing

6.) Either God or atheists did it. (I couldn't quite figure out that particular argument.)

Hope this helps.

The fact that games continue to run on UB right now while this so-called 'bug' has not been fully explained to the players is ridiculous, albeit expected.

We all know that KGC is in the back pocket of UB and isn't really a licensing board of any legitimacy but the fact that 48 hours has passed and they have not only not put a freeze on their license(a longshot) or at least informed UB players they were looking into the case, clearly reinfoces that KGC does absolutely nothing as a regulatory force.

Recap
1) UB shill Phil Hellmuth is shipped a $4K pot in a hand he lost
2) When informed of the situation, PH does nothing to help rectify it
2) poker community brings it to UB's and presumably KGC's attention
3) UB refunds a portion of the money to the player who actually won the hand, then for unknown reason waits to refund the rest
4) UB never indicates whether the money was taken back from Hellmuth's account
5) UB COO Paul Leggatt claims once again that the incident had to be 'brought to their attention' by the poker communty.
'Earlier today we learned about a poker hand where our system paid out the losing player instead of the correct winning hand. The hand number is #1162170993.'
6) UB COO Paul Leggatt claims that there is a 'malfunction' in their new software and that this has never happened before
"We are investigating this software malfunction as our absolute top priority.
This is the first incident of this kind we have encountered.
We are currently examining the poker system and the application logs in order to pinpoint the cause of this malfunction."
7) UB COO Paul Leggatt fails to inform anyone in his statement that the player awarded the pot erroneously is PH.
8) The UB blog is sent a legitimate hand history which shows 700 chips disappearing from a players stack in a tournament on the same day. This HH is deleted from the UB blog by the adminstrator with the claim of 'I was just doing what customer service asked me'

With all the abnormal activity and the uncertainty of the above, UB should have ceased dealing hands until the 'malfunction' and the Hellmuth coincidence is properly explained away. If they really were trying to regain the trust of their player base you would think they would have learned their 'head in the sand' approach can potentially do them so much more harm.

As we all know, the KGC in their press releases from July claimed that part of the 'sanctions' imposed from the nionio cheating scandal was that any future suspicious activity would be monitored closely with swift action taken. So much for that.

I believe a bug from crappy software is still a strong possibility and crappy software that can't award the pot correctly to the winning player might even be worse than cheating. Paul Leggatt announcing that 'this is the first time this has happened' is what is raising the most suspicion that something is again rotten. Had he claimed 'we are not yet certain whether this malfunction has also happened in hands not involving Phil Hellmuth' would have been such a better play for UB.

People know that:
a) Phil is all of a sudden playing a lot of High Stakes HU Lmit which is clearly not his game
b) Has claimed to be on a heater lately winning at an abnormal rate for him.
c) Played the hand in question in a curious manner
d) Engaged in player chat that didn't show concern, remorse or surprise for his opponent that got screwed
e) has not made any statement about the incident despite being well aware he has now been accused by some of cheating

Concerning all of the above info, for Leggatt to claim that the first time this has happened was in a Hellmuth hand just reeks.

To think that, because another hand hasnt been seen by 2+2 means another doesnt exist, is ridiculous.

UB, I assume you are reading this thread. Do yourselves a favor and prove this was not a one time occurrence involving your highest profile player by releasing hand numbers of other hands that this happened during.

If they cant/wont do that, it would seem suspicious to me, because I dont believe something like this could have been a one time occurrence.
The reason people are saying it's the only hand this occurred in is because their COO Paul Leggatt posted on the UB blog 'this is the first incident of this kind we have encountered'. http://blog.ultimatebet.com/2008/12/hand-1162170993/

Now he may have lied or mispoken thinking he could just sweep the whole thing under the rug by saying this but he did say it and that quote has not helped to quell suspicions.

It's sticky now because if he comes out now and says, actually it happened in a whole bunch of hands prior to the PH example then he comes off looking like he lied to his players trying to cover up a glitch that was not a one-off.

If he stands by his statement that this was the only hand of its' type and it miraculously happened to PH, then suspicions will remain. Tough PR spot at the very least.

Forgive me because i have only read a few pages of this massive thread, but it sounds like this Phil's hand history is the only reported incident in this thread. A similar incident happened to my wife on Absolute a few weeks ago.

Hi, I just played this hand at table Tustin, hand history #1136089263
.. In the hand I made everyone fold and a player that folded his hand
preflop received my money. This was the last hand played at the table
before it switched over to another server. Would you please look at

We meant to post this awhile ago, but i obviously never got around to it and my wife doesn't have a 2+2 account and figured nobody would take her post seriously, being that it would be her first post.

Thanks Kevmath!

Phil begins with a general discussion of how much he has been winning at limit hold'em (which is, after all, the most interesting thing about the hand). Then he starts explaining what happened. (All quotations from Hellmuth; comments in italics by me.)

"This hand will sound crazy because of the speed that was involved in it." (Context makes clear that Hellmuth is talking about how he played the hand, and the speed with which online players make decisions. Again, Hellmuth has zeroed in on what is most significant about the hand.)

"Probably in my online career, there's probably been a hundred pots that have been shipped, maybe 50 the wrong way to them and 50 the wrong way to me." (Oh really? If this is true, and since you play on UB, can we assume that all of them happened on UB?)

"What I like about Ultimate Bet is that they realized their mistake immediately." (False. The other player noticed the mistake and contacted them, demanding a refund.)

"Apparently, since we were heads up, somehow my opponent left the table, right before the pot -- right as the pot was being awarded." (False. Your opponent was disconnected from the table.)

"And, because he left the table -- and it may have been, I don't think it was his fault -- it may have been his fault in the official investigation -- but I don't think so -- but he for whatever reason he left the table and the pot was awarded to me." (The official name of this rhetorical device is "apophasis" -- suggesting the truth of something by pointedly denying it. In this case, Hellmuth encourages the listener to think it this was all the other player's fault by saying that he doesn't think it is.)

"And, you know, neither one of us noticed it." (Makes sense that Hellmuth didn't notice. After all, he has a reputation as a very unobservant player who doesn't care at all about whether he wins or loses.)

"And so I went back and I looked and I said, 'No, I'm only in $4,000.' And I think that prompted him to check to see what happened during the KQ hand." (So the other player should really thank Hellmuth for "prompting" him to check the hand. As the transcripts of their chat in posts #5 and #12 shows, Hellmuth just kept bringing the issue up again and again until the other player checked. Sarcasm here obvious, I hope.)

Hellmuth then discusses why he played the hand the way he did. (Thank God he finally got off the peripheral issue of who was awarded the pot!) He explains his river play as follows:

"The river was like a 4." (It was a 9.)

"He bet, I called. And, uh, right then and there, I could see he was having some connectivity problems. He probably connected and re-connected. He just kept popping off and popping back on. It was really weird." (So you were paying attention to his connectivity, but not to the fact that the pot was awarded to you.)

"And apparently he popped off at that exact millisecond. And the pot was rewarded [sic] to me. And then this controversy, but that's just online poker." (No. That is just online poker at Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker.)

"It's because of the Ultimate Bet and 60 Minutes and all this other BS." (Yeah, people being swindled out of their money is just a bunch of BS.)

Annie Duke, who was also on the show, now offered her opinion:

"Obviously, this is brand new software, and it just wasn't thought about ahead, what if someone wins a pot but they get up from the table before the pot is actually put into their stack." (Again, the other player did not "get up" or "leave" the table. He was disconnected. And anyone designing internet poker software should be thinking carefully about how disconnects are to be handled.)

Now Hellmuth asks listeners to look on the bright side:

"The great thing was that he was actually -- he did say he was very pleased that he was rewarded [sic] the pot within minutes." (False. The player had apparently contacted UB before 5:12 AM, see post #12. Then he posted that he was "on hold" with customer support at 5:27 AM. At 5:41, he posted that they had given him less than half the pot, with a promise to give him the rest "in a few hours." I guess the CEO of UB had to go hock a few things to get the rest of the money.)

"I think it's safe to say I've had a perfect reputation for honor, ethics and integrity in this business." (True, as long as we do not count publicly humiliating amateurs in order to get an edge on them in tournaments, blaming dealers for bad hands, and accusing half the people who beat you of slow-rolling you as lapses of honor, ethics or integrity.)

I may post some more summary of the show later, if anyone is interested, but I have to go to dinner in a while, and Hellmuth is making me queasy.
