What? Those professional basketball players are shooting 3's in a game where there's defense....and also guys with percentages that low are typically guys who aren't expected to be taking that shot and are taking it as a last resort shot clock/buzzer beater type situation.
Most NBA players who actually expect to shoot 3's in a game regularly shoot at least 35%. And those same guys would probably hit over 60% if it was a no defense shot on a practice court.
A guy like Tim Duncan for example, had a career 3 point % of only 18% (30-168 in his career) Because that wasn't his game and he never expected to shoot 3's in a game. When he did, it would've been mostly desperation last resort shots, and sometimes from well beyond the line as time was expiring. But I'd be willing to bet that on a practice court with no defense Duncan at least double that percentage.
10-1 was a terrible bet for Polk. Fair odds probably more like 6-1 or 5-1 if Hellmuth gets no warm up shots. If he gets warm up shots then even 4-1 is probably a bad bet.
