Turns out the "first division" is actually the 2nd tier of Icelandic football. This explains why he didn't want to get into it with people saying he didn't play in the "first division"...they were assuming he meant the Icelandic Premier League, and it also explains why the internet is devoid of records of his games. As for his salary quote, I guess that was just some embellishment on his part.
Keflavík (the team he claims to have played for) were in the top division in 1997.
I just wanted to thank the contributors in this thread for some first rate comedy writing.
For the record, I respect both Don Nguyen and Niman Kenkre for their contributions to the poker community. I have downloaded 84 videos from Don and 120 videos from Samo. They have made a serious effort to help others better understand this game.
I do not know the age of most posters on here. It may come as a shock to some of them that pretty much everybody lies and people are prone to embellish their resumes or exagerrate when it comes to their accomplishments.
I suspect that Samo is a better human being than 95% of us. He seems intelligent, a devoted father, committed to his craft, willing to help others and he's probably given more to charity than 99% of us. His character flaws really don't hurt anybody. It's sweet that some of us who don't have two nickels to rub together want to protect people who can afford Samo's extremely high hourly rate for poker coaching. I just don't think that these folks need our protection. They'll make up their own minds as to whether Samo delivers value to justify his rates.
It's very easy to make fun of Samo. He's such an easy target. He puts a huge KICK ME sign on his back every time he comes on here. The shame of it all is that this guy has been and can be an amazing contributor to a forum like this. He is easily the equal of Phil Galfond in this respect. Instead of trying to force him to admit he lied (as if the rest of us never lie or exaggerate), it might make sense to make him feel a bit more welcome on here. If you do, you'll learn a lot. If you don't you'll entertain guys like me with your great comedy writing.
Has Niman said anything about this? It's pretty funny that every time someone lies on these forums they make a 50K challenge, hahaha. Might have to start saying that..
