Seems cruel to just push him out on the street..
Create a hospital forum for posters who go over the edge. Comfy little padded cells with mod-doctors and nurses. And patients can't post anywhere else until cured.

I don't get this at all, it's hardly circumventing the filter since the filtered word is obvious in the context of the sentence, and, to me, **** gives a more aggressive/offensive air to the post since the original shows restraint.

Not really a complaint I just thought it was illogical.

It's against the site rules to spell things differently so that the word isn't picked up by the filter. Four stars can be interpreted however you want, even a non-filtered word like "crap". "Fk" has no interpretation other than "****". The rules sticky for NVG makes it explicitly clear that misspelling words to avoid the filter is a no-no.

It's usually just an edit or deletion as a result, though, unless it's someone who does it a lot, in which case they might get a warning or small infraction.

What's the correct interpretation of RJ? I can only think of one word...

ok i see that the four stars can be interpreted as something other than f word, but i would only read it as that in the context, subjective depravity i suppose

also can you moderate ZBTHorton in the same thread in the same way, just to avoid any rule breaking ofc, but actually mainly because i find him to be insufferable

They're the same thing. "gambling your way out of it" essentially means you make a bunch of bets you can't cover in hopes you win a bunch.

Were you intentionally attention whoring when you created this thread or has it just evolved into that? If the first, an AMA might have been more appropriate. If the second, you should stop.

RJ has had at least 4 AMA threads, that might be a record actually, interesting.

Yes, answering questions users have about moderation issues is totally me just attention whoring.

This is something users have asked for several times over the past months in NVG. If you have no questions and just want to mod bash, leave the thread.

This thread will be very useful once it matures a bit and defines it's borders.

Users might prefer a public discussion of certain issues.. Perhaps none are evident at the moment, but give it some time.

This. I've seen so many people in atf and other forums going insane about moderation issues, we finally get a thread now people are mad about it. Simple solution is get out of SGT RJ's thread because a lot of people (myself included) like the idea of a thread dedicated to moderation issues. If you don't like it then guess what... get lost!

It's not my thread, it's the moderation discussion thread.

I just happen to be one of the most active NVG moderators.

Perhaps when a thread is closed for non-obvious reasons, the mod in question could pop a note in here to say why, so that people can make comments if they don't agree with the decision, rather than sending individual PMs.

As a rule of thumb for this, I would say it would apply when a mod is kind of either way when they close a thread down, but the thread is still taking new hits at a reasonable pace - or if they have a strong reason to close it down, but that reason may not be readily apparent to the average NVG poster.

Why are the mods allowing the several threads on Eric Lindgren to remain open?

The guy has a gambling problem, this thusly expunges his responsibility in regards to all debt that he owes people

These threads need to locked and closed, they are preventing Erick from gambling his way back to even and beyond

Not a bad idea, although that requires the mods to remember AND posters to check here. Can't hurt, though.

Speaking of profanity, why are we not allowed to use profanity? I mean is there really anybody here who is offended by the f word? This isn't a church group ffs. I don't get it.

I think it is better not to use profanity. It annoys me a lot irl when it is used and I don't understand why you would need to use it. People's posts are easier to read without it and profanity is hardly the most classy thing in the world is it?

I imagine most of the advertisers prefer to be associated with a site that is not rife with profanity as well. Keeping them happy seems like a wise move.

In addition to a Hospital Forum for posters who've lost their minds, we should have a School Forum where the criminally profane can study vocabulary.
