Just pick a thread to discuss this in, bouncing back and forth between this and the LC thread is silly.

But I'd say your idea of what constitutes the standard writing style as it applies to threads here on 2p2 is fairly incorrect. I think most people assume that the thread author puts the point of the thread in the original post, where there is a lot more room to say stuff, than in the title.

Also, I'm sorry if my original reply to you in the LC thread came off as that rude. I often tend to sarcasm, but I don't really mean anything by it. It was not my intent to be rude and insult you in any way, only to sort of lightly jibe and remind people that we have a LC thread for a reason (to contain threads where people have a basic question they want answered).

So sorry that I was rude.

Anyway, you might find this thread provides a good start for you:

And I'd be happy to add to it.
Should probably add the Girah scandal to that as well. The last thread on that contained fairly comprehensive cliffs:

Shrewd observation, I would have to say never. I find it difficult to come across as anything other than angry on the internet when discussing things, probably because irl I express most things with tone and body language, the fact I can't do that on the internet makes me angry.

Thanks for the link, it's actually the Lock poker thread that made me start thinking about cliffs of scandals, because I still can't figure out wtf happened.

I appreciate your apology, and apologies that I escalated the angriness and was rude in return. HM2 deleted all of my custom HUDs the exact moment I read your reply - so that didn't help lol.

Did these forums ever consider asking for people's IDs?

I've been reading some drama threads (sorry) and there always seem to be some trolls that succeed in getting too much attention. I think that's pretty unfair for the many people that post under their own names (or pseudonym, meaning many know who they are).

The con would be that it might be a lot of work (but so is moderating and banning trolls) and that it's still cheatable.

Some further considerations for this, imo: people should still be able to make anonymous accounts, but those are then viewed with more skepticism by readers. Verified accounts should never, or almost never, be banned.

There are verified accounts for reps of card rooms and various products. Otherwise. people who want to stay anonymous stay anonymous for the most part, and people who don't want to be anonymous make it obvious who they are. Everyone knows durrrr on 2p2 is Tom Dwan irl, jman28 is Galfond, barryg1 is Greenstein, etc. If you sign up pretending to be someone else, you get banned when people find out, but it's possible you could scam some dumb people in the meantime.

There's absolutely no reason 2p2 would want to take on verifying people in general. Aside from the cost, it puts them in a more liable situation if somoene turns out not to be who they claim to be. Why would 2p2 want to takeon this expense and risk?

It's not unfair to the people who are posing under their real names. That's their choice

Never going to happen.

The amount of work necessary would be huge compared to the work of moderating and/or banning trolls, which is done by volunteers.

Besides, who needs to show ID to be a poster in the internet? That's insane.

Neal says you could implement a 3rd party verification service. 2+2 would ghettoize every other website.

That's just the status quo, a messageboard could choose not to follow that. For instance this messagboard could have more reasons implement this than a news website.

I understand there's a lot of reasons why you wouldn't want to do it, though.

I was mostly just wondering, thanks for the replies!

Its the status quo for a lot of really obvious reasons though. Aside from the extra work and risk, it would kill traffic because most people just wouldn't do it, and then you make no money. But other than that...

that's why i suggested that people should still be able to make anonymous accounts

Perhaps a more acceptable form of this would be to allow people to link their other social media accounts (Facebook? Twitter?) to their 2p2 accounts, and display a logo showing that those accounts are "verified" or something.

Seems like a cool idea for forums Josem. But with how much commerce goes on at 2p2 and by members offsite but online, idk if the value itd add would be worth the increased risk. Plus man hours from unpaid mods if vetting is more than an email match.

I can see people who get scammed by a hacked fb might try and hold 2p2 responsible if theyd "verified" that FB acct. Wouldnt have much legal standing i dont think but would create headaches. Unless you have your fb mostly private posting it publicly on 2p2 is gonna be a huge sec leak and one most people wont realize. Again not 2p2's problem exactly but something theyd have to deal with.

At a min Id say only have other verified members be able to see verified social media accounts.

Ruse,

It's pretty common to link FB (or Google+, or Twitter, etc.) accounts to other accounts, I don't think it's credible to hold 2p2 responsible for scamming involving such issues.

Haha, my thread "Horseshoe pays $1 million prize twice" gets merged with the LC thread, then without any prompting from me gets separated out again, and now a different mod closes it saying it's not "poker news", even though there are plenty of non-poker threads in NVG. A clear demonstration of how capricious most 2+2 modding has become.

Don't quite understand why my thread about Party charging vig on cashouts was moved when the party segregation thread remains here. Surely it's a newsworthy headline people need to see?

While I didn't move it, I expect it was moved because Internet Poker is where threads about Internet Poker sites usually go. Is there a reason to believe that it won't be seen when Internet Poker gets 1 million+ pageviews every month?

I could have sworn I responded to this yesterday. Computer glitch?

But anyway yeah what BF said, and I am the mod that moved it. I understand users sometimes get confused - some "big news" about internet poker sites is allowed in NVG. But for the most part, if your thread title contains the name of an IP site, then the thread belongs in IP.

If something is large enough news (like BF) then threads in both IP and NVG are the norm.

I see the thread about Cardplayer continuing to promote Lock was merged into the Lock containment thread. Could we keep it separate please?

It's a substantial separate line that will be lost in the general thread which is mostly about cashout times and Lock pros. It might be of benefit to some NVGers who are interested in poker ethics/media but who don't want to wade through cashout issues etc. The containment thread is already becoming a bit unwieldy as it is.

As a separate point, a couple of posts were taken from the dedicated thread and just thrown into the containment thread without providing any context which makes them much less meaningful.

Hmmmm.

The issue itself might be important. The OP as written was nothing that hasn't already been said in the containment thread multiple times before (how can Shulman/Cardplayer still promote Lock).

I could see an argument for a stand alone thread with a more detailed OP and a more specific purpose - how should the poker community deal with Cardplayer given this, for example. So with a better articulated OP/purpose it would work.

As for the posts just being "thrown into" the containment thread, that's what happens when threads get merged - I'm pretty sure they are put into the correct order by time of post.

Not going to get into the entire containment thread debate for the umpteenth time - there are pluses and minuses to it that can't really be fixed but the pluses outweigh the minuses.

NVG mods, I think it would be a good idea on the 16th of this month to start a 2nd FTP thread dealing with issues related to the claims process, I.e. limbo funds, points, ect, and then leave the current one open for those who want to discuss everything else FTP. That way we have a bit of separation for those of us who will be looking for more pointed info imo.

I was going to start one on the 16th but figured some of the time it gets merged or locked.
