Anyone got any ideas on the best way to organize it?

we could just open an official check in thread in the online forum and let everything materialize from there. maybe even get the mods to make a sub forum like the other sites have.

What makes you think I'd want to play an SNG against a bunch of 2+2ers as opposed to a bunch of randos?

Re: New York Poker Start-up Attracts Players With $1,000 First Game
How is this site going to be around in the next few months? Once people start getting up to the higher steps they'll either have to drastically reduce the prizes or simply shut down. Right now there are unlimited step 1 tourneys and in each tourney at least 1 person is guaranteed to move up. Once you get up to step 10 or 20 or whatever they're paying out 4 or 5 digit sums. Eventually a critical mass of players will work their way up there. I wonder if the site is just buying time to hope to get more investors or if it's just a scam.
Edit: I checked and once you get up to the higher steps only 1 person does advance and because you need 9 people to fill up a SNG that means you need 81 people to have played the previous level and then how often are those 9 people actually gonna get together at the same time? The player base has to grow exponentially to even have some of those higher step tourneys running so maybe by that point they can go to advertisers and say "Hey we have a player base of X so you should advertise with us."
The lack of coordination of players as well will slow down the advancement in the steps since 9 people have to randomly sit down at the same time and as you go up the steps the number of players in that level exponentially decreases.
Edit 2: Steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 have 3 people advance, then steps 5, 6, and 7 have 2 people advance. After that only 1 person advances. Right now the highest level available is Step 13 cash. To get to that level, the site needs to have a player base of at least 59,049 players that have reached step 7. (9^5) Since the earlier steps allow more than 1 person to advance I'm too lazy to figure out how to do that math but it does seem like the site will need to have a player base in the mid 6 digits for them to start paying out anything decent. I guess by that time they will have advertisers and actually have the money to make the payouts. Until that time the site just seems to be in a lame beta state with crap software and crap payouts.
Edit 3: You can do the same calculations for the heads up SNGs as well. They need a player base of at least 2^X where X is the level of the SNG to get to that level. I'm assuming the whole concept behind the site is that they did some calculations, came up with the prize pools for these tourneys and assumed that they'll have enough advertiser revenue by the time the player base gets to the level where they start paying out some of the decent prizes.

Stop trying to kill this thread with facts, will ya? We're beta testing, it's free, it's fun, and besides, even when people win four and five figures, there is no way to cash out that I can see, much less cash tables/cash tourneys to spend the won money!

My friend tried a cashout just to see if it would work (about $2). It took about 3 days for the money to go from Cafrino to Paypal and then another 3 or so to hit his bank account.

I say we just bum-rush the sng's and get to this money. If any group of people can unlock the real payouts it'd be us.
BTW, come sit with me at step six. Straight ghost town in here.

I agree with this, it's going to take a group of people committed to playing over and over. I know there's a few who have step 6 tickets, haven't seen more then 2 there myself.

I don't think the site is a "scam". You don't need to pay anything other than your time to play. It is true that your rate of return will never be more than pennies (at best) per hour played, unless you are extremely lucky. The tournaments that they currently run might be an exception, as they have $50 in prizes and only 120-150 players. So those might be in the range of $0.20 per hour played.
I think your calculations are wrong concerning the "base of at least 59,049 players that have reached step 7". You only need 9 players total. For example, 9 players can play step 1's until they all have step 2 tickets. Then they play step 2 SNGs. When all 9 players have step 3 tickets, they can then play step 3 SNGs, etc. Now obviously this is an extreme example to show that you really only need 9 total players so that a figure like 59,049 is not "the minimum number of players needed".
It is true that the site needs to have a lot of players and a lot of SNGs run to ever have a step 13 start. I ran a program to calculate the minimum number of step 1 SNGs that need to run before there could ever be enough tickets to start a step 13. Here is a chart:
Step SNGs
1.....6,397,251
2.....5,022,526
3.....2,695,235
4.....1,428,858
5.......720,912
6.......207,484
7........59,511
8........18,347
9..........2,826
10...........433
11............65
12..............9
13..............1
For example, you need to run (at least) 9 step 12 SNGs to get the 9 tickets for a step 13. You only need 65 (not 81) step 11 SNGs because after running a step 12, 2 players retain a step 12 ticket.
These are clearly just the minimum numbers needed. For example, if the same person won 2 step 13 tickets, you would need to run at least 1 more step 12. And of course players will be cashing out at earlier levels, and some will just stop playing and not use all their won tickets.

Seems like people are starting to head over there. My step Five filled in record time.

I'm giving it my all. I have nothing better to do. The HU ones are the easiest, but you have to start all over again with just one loss. I made it all the way to step five, and when I lost (KJ vs. K2, lol), I had to start all over again, whereas in the full ring SNG's that isn't the case.

Re: New York Poker Start-up Attracts Players With $1,000 First Game
The heads up games are so crazy I mean you have to actually win like 16 in a row to be looking at any kind of decent money. In your poker career have you even won even 12 in a row, Nice post by lloyd. I agree. Sooner or later people will have tickets to move up and the payouts will be costing the site insane money.

Good to hear FeliciaLee ! Imo, the 9 man's seem to be the most reasonable way to go. More and more players are showing up and you don't have to go all the way back to step 1 if you lose.

Couldn't agree more. The heads up are so tough you need to win so many in a row just to get something...I think it's like 7 just to win a penny.
